I know this is not the author's intention but I find that phrase 'there's many children born not from love so you're not particularly unfortunate' pretty jarring? The authour want to show her being kind and gentle why would they make her say that? To a baby? It comes off as her being 'oh what little baby you are unfortunate well boohoo there's many people who struggles more so suck it up'

Actually you know what I think it's my bias against the characters showing. I find Ash relatable and interesting at first but now I just find her meh

@verysurprisedowl Remember this is a world of royalty and nobility. Royal/noble children of the period aren't really conceived out of love and affection than they are a means of ensuring the continuation of the noble bloodline and its related vested powers/authorities.

And it's true, that's just how life works, babies dont always born out of love even when they did, it doesnt mean their life will be full of blessings either.

@Casndi - Often babies can be born blonde and turn into brown here after they grow up. I've seen plenty of blonde babies from my friends family sharing photos but they have brown hair as a teenager-adult.
