It's been years? Also, the ex-parents seem to know a lot about this, given they know their misfortune would be worse if she was actually dead. If they were aware of what she was doing absorbing misfortune, why in the world would they risk her being harmed, little lone left to literally die? You want her nearby to absorb misfortune, and heavily protected, so underground in the castle dungeons like how most stories keep their human slave tools.
