You know, the guy can't hold a sword, but he's basically IMMUNE TO WEAPONS. If he had a bit of creativity he would've trained to be a karate master or something and just challenge every samurai he comes across. They literally can't touch him with a sword, so he could've beaten the crap out of them with his bare hands alone (or the bamboo sword) and earn a reputation as the great sage who doesn't even need swords to win battles. That was literally Yagyu Sekishusai's reputation in his old age.

That sounds like more trouble than it’s worth. It’s about honor and pride, like in the first chapter how much of a slap in the face it was that they refused to use their sword on him at first. If he fought people bare handed even if he’s the strongest it would be both insulting to them and be dishonorable to himself and his family name. You fight with swords if you want a fair fight and show decency to your opponent as equals. Especially this time period where that was everything, it’s stupid but that’s just the way it was. Even if he explained people would refuse to listen, any reputation from it would be negative.

@Twi That's not how samurai honor works. Yagyu Sekishusai near the end of his life became so proficient in skill that he could disarm an opponent with his bare hands. His son Munenori popularized the use of the sword catcher for lawmen of Edo. The famous Sasaki Kojiro was renowned for being able to use tsubame-gaeshi to cut leaves with a twig. He was killed by Miyamoto Musashi with an oar to the head. Samurai respected people who could beat swordsmen without using swords. They viewed it as the pjnnacle of their art. Dishonor did not lie with not being able to use a sword but in not being able to fight. Someone who could fight swords without using swords was considered a sage even during the sengoku era. ALL the samurais' exalted role models demonstrated this virtue.

@Twi Vagabond, of course. That said, it overstates Sekishusai's skills and never got to the oar-to-the-head part.

Edit: Oh, within the context of this manga's story, what I suggested is VERY dishonorable of course. A true master would reach sage status when he could beat up sword-armed opponents like Sekishusai and Musashi, but in this case it's a dude with a weird superpower that he still hasn't recognized to be one. The samurai would look at it and think wow he must be an amazing sage of the martial arts, but we know he's just leveraging his weird curse to trick them. Hahahaha.
