Likely meant pretty dense - as in they got struck by a lot of branches while riding through on rata. And yeah, there were missing words in several places, might be poor typesetting too (and lacking quality control) instead of translation issues.

I'm starting to think that only the 10th legion has all the nice, new shit and are playing their own game (they pretty much admitted to acting out of their own volition) while deceiving the rest of their country's authorities.

I'm pretty sure the manga has so far been pretty explicit about not showing any obvious and serious magic, and Kazura's accordingly come across pretty skeptical in some of his monologuing like when he was checking out the sorcerers' herb gardens.

It's vague, because while those "sorcerers" are primarily said to be brewing some concoctions to cure disease, it was also mentioned that they can (for a hefty payment) use something called "prayers" which is supposed to be even more effective, according to Issac. It is gullible, summer child Issac though, so it's anyone's guess what's up with that and the MC seems to lack any curiosity...
