For those who are wondering. The artist took a one-year break between August 2024 and August 2025. Normally, the publication schedule will resume as usual. As for the original author, he has been writing a new web novel for several months and is preparing the sixth volume of the light novel Virgin Knight. The series will resume its regular publication schedule

Hi, not trying to be disrespectful but can you point out such instances where pronouns have been inverted.
I got a summary of the pronounce we did use. Unless you mean Polidoro was a female.
* snip *
I am not the translator, so help me out here.
  • Page 10, "duke Astarte". So far Astarte has always been referred to as a duchess.
  • Page 11, "he'd think the same as HIS highness". Every other authority figure bar Polidoro is female so it should have been "HER highness".
  • Page 22, "he's the sentimental type". Both knights are female so it should have been "she's the sentimental type". The bubble in the raw is "想起タイプのショタコンだったか" so 100% not about the rescued boys (literal translation is "was [implied subject] a reminiscence-type shotacon?")
Well, three is a number... My apologies, my comment was harsher than warranted.

Well, this is unique to the manga. So I'm sure part of the disjointed pacing is because of that. So this is how they'll handle it. Not a fan of the change, but I guess this allows more personality in the guard to be given since we skipped a bit.

To be fair, we know the majority of the 2nd Princess group actually find Faust moderately attractive, though that opinion is. . . well, heavily swayed by his position as both a Lord of anything and a breathing male. And any other attempts at marriage is literally being stopped by the fact that the 4 people who like him in Anhalt are also the 4 most powerful women in Anhalt. So Zabine and group are the only ones we hear about actively wanting him, besides the 4.

Not that anything else you say isn't relevant, but his level of attractiveness is a bit higher in Anhalt than he realizes, even if he is the inverse of most tastes in males in Anhalt. And honestly, the point is mostly moot anyway to both the reader and Faust.
That is the usual issue of an author telling, not showing. There should have been more characters that weren't attracted to Faust for one reason or another, and imo, the revelation of some of the four should only be hinted at this early on given how tied into politics that is.

I will say that despite that, they are depicting feudal politics better than most. At least on Faust's end.

EDIT: Granted, going by other spoilers, that might change.

What? They show the two male maids talking about it. They are the stand in for the public opinion on male beauty. Faust is a war hero, his physical appearance matters very little. He's still attractive, just not conventionally attractive by Anhalt standards. The merchant knows that his availability is essentially zero.

If we had joined him before then, sure. But you have two of his compatriots, the 1st Princess and the Duke Astarte, who are attracted to him. Even in chapter 1, we get the knowledge in the Manga that the fact he resembles the former king is part of why the Queen is attracted to him. Him not being conventionally attractive to the Queen, the Princesses, and the Duke is not a problem. The Queen, Princess Anastasia, and Princess Valerie won't search for a wife for Faust for obvious reasons. And him being essentially marked by both the current and future monarch, let alone the Duke who is 3rd in line from the throne, ensures that any robed noble who might find him attractive is warded away. No one in government is going to petition the Queen for a family member to marry Faust.

Faust is a border lord of a poor region that is resource rich. Valerie's royal guard are all daughters who no longer can inherit their family's title for one reason or another. They are all thirsty virgins. Faust is a pretty great catch for them. I'm also not sure the members of the guard actually care that Faust is being spoken for by the Queen/Princess/Duke. And Faust doesn't exactly realize that at the moment, either.

The male maids were exposition, as well as to explain that Faust's main motivation was to preserve his family legacy as well as protect his people. Every major female character in the story so far, and many of the lesser characters, have wanted to jump him. In other words, we are seeing a lot of outliers, and the actual majority hasn't been represented nearly as much. I understand the story reasons behind it, both from a timing standpoint (he is already in service to ones who want to jump him) and from a catch standpoint (hunting bandits is a lot more interesting than working out deals with other fiefdoms). However, it still puts the readers into the position where we are told, through exposition, that this is the way of the world while the story is giving us contradicting evidence.

And I don't just mean from a sexual (IE: looks, personality or whatever) standpoint, I also mean from the perspective of his level in the court. He is someone from a relatively low standing in terms of court ranking; which in real life politics would mean even if he is of noble blood, he would be a poor fit for a royal marriage. Actually, Valerie would be a good fit for him there, as it would be a good way to follow up on the queen seeking to prevent any conflict between the sisters. However, the first three in line for the throne all thirst after him with two forming plans for actually getting him. The low birth rate of men would explain why court ranking is less of an issue, but either way, it again goes against the exposition.
