Lmao, Sabine did NOT read the room, it killed the vibe a bit for me. It's like the criticism of Marvel movies being too quippy, don't throw jokes in when something serious is going on because it kind of ruins the emotional weight of it. It would have been fine if she just came in and was happy without realising but the confetti made it a joke.

Thank you for picking this up. But maybe you can try to reduce the number of ad links to your blogspot, this thing will lead to drama.

Yeah I know I'm being harsh but I don't remember past events, I signed up for the premises and with all the similarities this feels way too akin to a "band of falcon arc" to me which can't top it. But all that aside it's good on it's own. :aquadrink:

Yeah, the manga really did Sabine/Zabine dirty. She doesn't do the confetti stuff in the LN, and we get 'They knew that any free time would cause them to dwell upon the loss of their fallen comrade, and so they busied themselves with work, vigilantly standing guard.'

Faust is also nearby during Valiele/Valiere's crying. Arriving sometime during the interval between killing the enemy soldier and the shock. He takes over command of the end of battle/clean up. Sabine also grieves rather hard, barely leaving her body over the course of the day. Admittedly they could still have that last bit, but I'm doubtful we will see it.

I really, really enjoy this story (having read the WN), but I definitely think it will be a superior read once the entire arc is finished and you can read it all at once.

On another note, I don't recall them seeding Valiere's true strengths quite so early?

Also early mention of fairies?

I know that you just lost your friend, but she died because you all let your guard down. Maybe you should keep the tears in check until after you safely make it back? Hard to do, but you're soldiers.
They had done a headcount, and the person who Valiere killed in desperate and incensed fashion just before she dropped besides Hannah (also the one who killed Hannah) was the last non-accounted member of the enemy forces. They get to be justified in letting their guard down now, compared to right before when there was still 1 person unnacounted for.

Isn't this the first arc, and the first battle? It's been three years! I can't tell if that's a horrifically slow pace, or normal? :thonk:
And we still probably haven't fully completed it.

On Another note, I feel like Hannah should have had just a bit more presence in the last few chapters. She was too often overshadowed by the loud perverted drill haired girl - it would have had a bit more oomph if she played the serious one and kept chastising and trying to correct drill girl after each of her outbursts. Hannah was around, but not enough too really give her death the impact I think it should have had.
Again, I feel like this might have been handled in the WN better, though it's been some time since I've read it, and can't recall the details specifically regarding Hannah's death.

Never been a fan of story depth through character death, personally.

I see the appeal for those that find it grounds stories, but I didn't check in to this title for somber, depressive themes.

This one's just not for me at all. Cheers to those that are enjoying it, though.

People deal with grief in different ways. It’s why some funerals are celebrations instead of solemn mourning. She knew her friend wouldn’t want them to be depressed and sad, but glad they and the princess made it through the battle.

It‘s not so much a joke, but an ill timed attempt to do what she thinks her friend would have wanted. But the pain was just to real.
