I don't understand one thing. Why did they not transfer the children to their town so they could be better protected? I would think moving them to the new town would allow them to see each other more often in her down time, or at least their funds would be more secure with it being in their town. Have you ever heard of stealing candy from a baby? If a child has a lot of money then of course they will get robbed and maybe injured or killed in the process.

My god you guys are all idiots, it's explicitly stated that Charlotte's salary (that she makes from being a servant/soldier/mage etc) will all go directly to the kids. It's implied that since they grew up with Charlotte, they know how to survive given the proper resources, i.e the money from her salary, and that's why she is fine with leaving them in the first place. It's like she's out working to make money for her family, meaning they are completely fine and will probably survive, given that some random guy doesn't decide to murder them or some other external threat appears. The kids are FINE.
