Bureaucratic errors... aside from being a literal nightmare sometimes, it is also a figurative (because you aren't sleeping and its real) nightmare when it happens.
Boosting their scores with the physicals would only make his score even higher, so thats a folly of a plan if any :p

And I feel like people would have started suspecting something when an obvious nobles kid shows up in the commoners division. Like sure, the clothes might have been splurged on, but at a certain point it becomes worthwhile verifying.

@feha The problem lies more in how it happened, it all happened in few minutes so only the people at the reception had a chance in seeing how he dressed

@BloodySorcerer yes, I too read the chapter. But that doesn't make it a bit farfetched that noone caught on to him seeming a bit too rich and well-educated to be there (the closest was a girl who couldn't tell more than the clothes being expensive).

@feha it's not because it happened too fast. That woman who made a blunder and dropped the papers was probably comming from the commoner section to deliver the papers to the noble section so they'd group them accordingly. That woman probably mixed his papers with someone else's, and she also probably wasn't the one to report the incident, but a third unrelated person, which is why his looks were never commented upon to the higher ups.

@lurker123

I'm expecting it was a setup for something bigger like there's a talented commoner to be a future comrade, finding some seed of conflict, or getting him some new view of the world from different perspective. . .but it's seems my expectation is too much . .

@degenerateafro I presume that her reaction was based upon the fact that they are keeping up the mentality/trope that "royals & aristocrats are better, which is why they rule by right."

I was actually expecting the Commoner testing to be BRUTAL in keeping with the traditions at Oxford, Cambridge, and other institutions that had tests for the commoners to be bureaucrats and let the aristocrats skip the exams. Having these royals come in first seems totally plausible given how things are rolling.

As for the proctor's line, again, one can fairly implement an exam and still "curve" the numbers in such a way that the royals come in first to support the hegemony. It's a points system after all. Don't think this wasn't super common (and still commonplace) globally.

Powerful people get preference for all sorts of reasons. It's one reason behind the run of dunces.

As for a "Commoner coming in first", this society is NOT a democracy, and as such, permitting such a society to permit commoners to surpass the powerful could potentially damage the system. They fear this and are seeking to effect a reinforcement of the power structure to !aintain stability in the society. They can't be letting commoners think that they might be capable of doing things as well as or better than the ruling class. Note: It doesn't mean that they have to implement poor exams. In fact, doing so would be counter intuitive. If they tests were borked, then the magistrates who actually run their society could be impaired, thus making things screwy.

This plot reminds me of plots from The Legend of Heroes series from both Trails in the Sky and Trails of Cold Steel.🤔😅😂🤣

@TheDragonLord That doesnt really make sense if we look at what we know until now about that country and all...
(+Edit:
Well, it isnt, if i interpret the next chapter correct the test is exactly the same and the commoners take it away from the nobles because they dont want them to feel intimidated and fail because of that, since the nobles normally will overshine them, after all they already have years of education, while a common hasnt.
Sure, the "oh no, what do we do, a commoner was strong" seems "bad" at first, but as you say, it is logical, it would seem like the education the nobles get has no benefit if someone without any education beats it, its normal to think about it and you WANT your royal family to look strong and intelligent, because that gives the people trust in their ability to run the country, even in a country without direct discrimination (I mean, there is always some indirect, no matter if rich>poor or noble>commoner, in every time. :x so, inside our system isnt so different, at least there they dont automatically give the nobles the better grades (which would be in our case, buy them for the rich kids...) Its not really different in a so calles "democracy" in the end, just the terms change and sometimes one from the bottom makes it up there, giving the others the false hope everyone could...)

How does literally nobody recognize him? Surely there can't be thousands of new-royalty super-powered children to mistake him for.

I really worry for the future of this kingdom.

Despite the rampant idiocy of the protagonist.... page 9 and 10 had a random cutie who we'll probably never get to see again.
