does anis actually have magic power/mana since birth but just can't materialize it?
or did she get it as a part of the "gifts" from the dragon she killed before?

It's been a while, but I think yeah, she has mana, but no spirit affinity, so no direct ability to channel mana into spells like the nobles can. Her tools using spirit stones let her (and commoners) do so. Though I guess there are also tools powered directly by the spirit stones, like the hot water kettle? Now I'm not sure.

All beings, including Anis and commoners have magic. But, only spirit contractors and their descendents can access it. The contracts work as thus: spirits get to feed on the magic in nobles' bodies and in return act as a medium for conducting magic. Anis' soul can't resonate with the spirits because it's from another world. So she has to use spirit stones/magicite to channel her magic instead.

Thats why her weapons and inventions all have magicite in them. It lets her and non-nobles use them. Those enhancement pills at the start were made of crushed up magicite, but the effects were temporary. What she did with the dragon magicite was a more permanent solution. She embedded it into her body so she can use that to cast magic instead of spirits. Thats why she doesn't need the pills anymore.

I really have to say I appreciate Thomas, he's an ally, hates royals but he's not a dick about it.

Also yes, he's right, at least some cute engagement rings would be appropriate

It's a mana blade. It can turn into whatever Anis needs it to be to suit her situation.
Broadword, Rapier, Big Hammer, fuckin' MagicBomb Shooting Gunsword

the base is effectively aesthetic, more than anything. Maybe some "handwavey magiscience" that it has to be a certain shape to most efficiently channel her mana into a usable form, or something.
I like to think of it like how airbrushes have needles, the cone of the nozzle and the needle work together to apply the air and liquid pigment into broad or narrow vapor streams. Actually afaik jet engines do something similar, maybe her swords are fantasy magic jet engines?
