Finally, a misunderstanding that actually makes sense from an outside perspective. Usually, these things are done in a really dumb way like "Oh this monster ate a bandit" "IT MUST BE THE DEVIL!"

@srjoao The MC could already evolve without using Gregory's sacrifice, I think with the XP/energy gained from killing a human the MC's current form can finally get to full strength.

@HDMI1 I don't remember if this was explained earlier or not in the manga with the MC's first evolution so I'll put it in spoilers just in case:
Evolution options are based on the person's skill/title ranks. For example, the MC had Rolling Dragon as an option because of his level in the roll skill and Little Arc I think because of Tiny Hero. So the idea is that killing Gregory could unlock some sort of skill/title that fulfills the requirements for a new evolution.

@ZeroWWE yep. Reading from the WN, your predictions start missing the mark from... the 2nd one onwards. I guess it's kinda a given that he saves the village... to an extent lol.

@Xeans at your own risk
He'll play the villain after defeating the rock dragon (the fight was pretty epic imo) and leave the village. He'll proceed to encounter another "outsider" and another battle ensues. This one is kinda like a stand battle in the way that it's kinda puzzle based

It's a breath of fresh air in an isekai when he can't just get everything right. He has to do the evil deed and be seen as a monster rather than find a way to save everyone with no issue. I mean, it sucks that his good will, including the gentle handling of the rescued kid and how he protected those guys from the tail, is going to be entirely ignored in favor of one mercy kill, but this is for the better; people are stupid and judgemental, so this bit of realism adds depth to the world.

I always assumed this manga / story was going to end up with him just being that village girls' chaperone, so I never let myself get invested much. I like these types of isekai stories, so long as the MC doesn't tie himself down to anyone else. An example that I can think of immediately is Arc from Skeleton Knight in another world. It was awesome when he was just going around from place to place, doing whatever he wanted as a giant holy knight. Yet, within a couple of chapters, he meets that elf girl and from that point forward basically starts living just for her, which I find frustrating. Sigh.

Anyway, I'm surprised this took such a dark turn--yet going by the cover from the novel that I've seen, I get the feeling it's still going togo the route I dislike.
