@Avrune - the wolf has a lot of usefulness left, and gets to play a big role in the next arc (unless the manga diverges from WN). But ultimately, pets don't have to be useful, they just have to be cute.

It's a faithful adaptation so you can just jump in.

Also the fan translation (by Cardboard Translations) is very good! It's up to chapter 304.
