Or how about some pickled herring or Caviar on tube,
:pepela:
I vote lutefisk and surströmming...
Westerners after tasting soy sauce/natto/sushi/sashimi for the first time according to Isekai writers: This is the most delicious thing I've ever tasted in my life.

Not everyone is so stupid as to chug random condiments. Think you would find the uninitiated would have the same reaction to drinking a straight shot of Worcestershire sauce or Tabasco.

Do isekai writers get executed if they don’t include an “everyone in this vaguely European fantasy world flips shit for Japanese cuisine the first time they see it as though seaweed and fermented beans aren’t an acquired taste” scene
While I will admit the Japanese go overboard with the foodporn, its hard to deny that it is one of the most imported cuisines in the world. Maybe not as popular as Chinese or Mexican, but you can even find discount sushi of questionable quality in gas stations here in the states... right next to the dried out burritos and overcooked hotdogs.

It's not like we lack interestingly tasting foods.

Eh, there are many cultures more commonly found. Other than Chinese and Mexican, there's Italian, Turkish, Indian, Vietnamese, and probably others. At least where I live.

lol still can't believe they got away with naming a chara 'roomba' (unless it's not rly a thing in japan) , you'd think an editor would have them change it just in case or a parody/slightly altered spelling like how WcDonalds is a thing

Remind me again, why are you going where you're going?

Yeah, as much of a petty bastard he can be, he's still racking up positive karma by all the other pettier bastards around him.

I should write one where everyone flips their shit over salty licorice. Or filmjölk.
Japanese finds out about fermented herring ( any of the types...), flips his shit, and has a clothes-ripping FoodGasm.... ;)

Also it's weird that this is the first time he's apparently thought of building a house in Kagura? You've got the teleportation power, little man, were you going to wait on a boat and carriage to get soy sauce every time you run out at home?
He doesn't want people to know his abilities. He wants an easy life and people knowing about it may make him a work horse or may be forced to be court mage. There are a whole wack of things.

Good god, I can't imagine oysters with soy sauce pairing well with orange juice.

Italian is probably the most widespread, even if the idea of pizza that most of the world knows is filtered through the US. Same goes for German, if you consider hamburgers, but nobody really should since it's just smushed meatballs.

Unless it's kebab pizza. One of the most Swedish dishes you can find. And that's not even a joke.

I agree on natto and raw fish, but soy sauce is a completely different matter.
Soy sauce, and, even more, sweetened soy sauce, is a potent concentrate of most of the flavour enhanceners known to humanity: as such, there are almost no dishes that are not improved by a couple of drops of soy sauce...
