"I'm not a masochist or anything" - creepy dude from chapter 3
So that was a fucking lie.
Also, is this really a Seinen manga? It feels more Josei to me because of the art style and the homo situations Maomao thinks about for that creepy guy.
Think it would be Xiao, not Shao. Xiao as in small, little. They use it to refer to people close to them. An example of this in a mainstream movie would be on The Karate Kid reboot, Jackie Chan calls the kid Xiao Dre.
All the demographic tag really means is that somebody at the publisher thought the story would sell to people like that. It's entirely possible it would have sold to another demographic just fine or possibly even better.
and the homo situations Maomao thinks about for that creepy guy.
Those feel more like jokes at his expense than anything else. If there were actual scenes of dudes getting it on with each other in great detail, that might be a different story. But the series at large isn't even remotely about a gay romance or sexy times. It's more about a quirky girl who is pretty cute doing sciencey and deductive type stuff. Sounds like a decent fit for a seinen magazine.
If that guy (who works as bait to lure unfaithful girls out for the emperor) wasn't good looking, this'll look like sexual harassment overload. Not like it doesn't already look like some harassment of a masochist to find his S master. 🤔😂
@Ekfreet
They are a land of limitless freedom comparing to what they were. Women have a decent amount of rights there (according to the Global Gender Gap Report, CN index of equality for women is 0.676 and JP is 0.652; it's pretty adequate numbers since GGGR accounts for political empowerment which doesn't mean much in my opinion). Sexism is... well, sexual habits are irrelevant since they are a part of a social construct.
If you want a modern example, then we have aplenty. Iraq, Iran, Yemen, etc, score terribly in basic rights and educational attainment.
