The guard was not in the wrong in anyone's eyes during that period. No one would blink twice at a guard (guarding the nobility, especially) striking against a lowborn, dirty, and unremarkable commoner since they could be killed for less. And since she was interrupting a time of worship for the highest nobles of the country, prison, then death, was more likely to happen.

And note: This guard’s reaction was a bit abnormal. That sort of provocation would not have worked unless our FL was correct. And as someone had pointed out, his actions were seen as too much by they other guards themselves. Yes they were to guard but that doesn’t excuse his brutality. Regardless if Fl was a boy/ girl. At most you can drag the little girl away. What’s a skinny little girl going to do? JS.

Just as an officer has certain situations that allows them to shoot. Same with these guards. I don’t believe this guard’s action falls in any appropriate category other than unjustifiable use of power and position. 😐 Beating a skinny little thing when you could’ve just grabbed her by her clothes and dragged her away would have been more appropriate. Long short he could have dealt with the situation better assuming his not in on the plan of the assassination which I suspect he actually is part of. 👀 Only thing I can think of to justify his actions. He wanted to silence the witness who figured it out. So he was indeed doing his job. A dirty sinister one. Though I understand why some might come in the guards defence. Our FL accusations were treasonous and cause 9 generations of this guards family to die. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Assuming that’s why he lashed out so harshly ~

The people trying to defend the guard are retarded, you don’t go smashing a handmaid’s face in in the middle of the palace in front of the entire court, you grab and move them outside then beat the shit out of them out of everyone else’s view. one of most interesting points of this manga is the refined level of detail: for example you have to see carefully each balloon to know if Shaomao is speaking or merely thinking about something. In the last panel, she don't say to Jinshi he's noisy, she's too exhausted 😄 at first glance i was sure she told him that 😁

I can't believe there' s a pro guard anti guard convo here. Yes, his job was to stop unauthorized people from getting into the temple, but there are multiple ways to reach that goal: have someone remove her or just keep standing in her way. Instead, he played baseball with her face because she said a couple of crazy things. Even another guard thought he went overboard. Someone of his own profession thought he was wrong... How could people argue otherwise? Plus he intended to keep hitting her. He didn't hit her to keep her out. He did it cause he was mad that a maid was disrespectful to him. Also, if it had caused enough of a scene, it would have disrupted the ceremony which would ultimately negate his whole function.

It's like if a bouncer slapped someone hard across the face when someone who was denied said snarky remark.
