Akira's ability is bullshit... but it isn't an asspull.

It was clearly built up, the reveal actually justified some of the things he was able to do, the rest is because his body clearly isn't human, however they gave him that tree-body, it was clearly adjusted to be a battle model.

How would the futurist village arc be an asspull or come from left field? At the point they appeared in the story, we already knew about futurists, a village existing was at first impression a world-building detail that evolved into a full-fledged arc.

I wonder whether the predictions going awry is actually due to Lucas's flowering, or if a factor unknown to them — that happened around the same time (eg the Druidic treetuses/Lucas' arbourable wedding) — is actually responsible/related and they're misattributing the cause

I think it is because they think to understand something they really don't.

By the looks of it, they envision a future by calculating probabilities and visualizing an outcome, possibly because the druids are extra-planar being that can interact with time and space differently.

But... this cannot be something so simple, the idiots already condemned their future by warping their past to such an extent, and their only safeguard for not erasing themselves out of reality is that "their souls are stored in the towers".

Do not think they are comprised of prodigious people who took their time to understand the profound mechanics of the space-time continuum, the futurists are arrogant, privileged idiots that fucked up reality because the only thing they could think after receiving such power was "world domination".

Well I would say that for Akira, the whole setting is about time travel so I dont see how its that out of line particularly. Fits the setting fine as a mysterious ability we don't know the principles of
And as for the futurists, frankly I'm taking a poli sci class in university and the way their opinions changed is 100% in line with how mass opinion changes in real life. Id be really shocked if there aren't equally absurd stories that come out of the ottoman occupation of Europe minus the mpreg(lmao).
But I can understand how they could feel like asspulls to other people and as we go further into the story hindsight may prove me incorrect.
We'll see.

But even then... it still is a stupid decision, and considering they shit they have been doing... doesn't change much.

The futurists are a cancer, they have caused irreparable damage to reality, sincerely... I don't even think there is a "fix" to what they have done, I just think those people can't be allowed to exist anymore.

This "timeline" is the "present" now, let it advance in its tracks without the pollution of the futurists.

In most mangas, when they put the main hero and villain face off, they look determined and confident but here we have two kids looking absolutely miserable, forced into a role they don't want to be in but with no other choice than to embrace it. It is heartbreaking, man.
