Ch 24

This was a fun and meaty chapter where a medley of powers from everyone were on display. A fitting chapter for the 2nd Anniversary celebration.

I love all these ways to screw with Demi's nigh-omniscient powers, hiding a target among enemies who all have the same face on a chaotic circular battlefield and constantly on the move. Lucas responding with the pincer assault was clever.

Finally, hard confirmation that the powers of deceased Rami go to the closest Tower. But man, when I first read this I thought it was unfair: Lucas' side was already at a disadvantage and had to play things really carefully, and suddenly the Empire's Tower from across the sea gets to launch its own bombardment attack!?

At least Udo's giant World Trigger-esque multi-layered blood shields saved them. Man he's been great.

Can't believe I actually felt bad for Theodore and his duplicates, struggling as hard as they did for their new friend. But can't say he didn't have it coming - while it's true his royal siblings were awful to him, that's no reason to consent to condemning his own country and all its people. Not to mention enabling the Empire in its conquest was bound to have people coming after him.

Oh boy, Akira is here. I mean, I never believed this battle will be the end of Kayano/the Garland, but still sucks for him to be here. But just like with Marineford, seconds of courage are enough to change outcomes.

The way this manga made feel bad for everyone involved is so depressing. Even that bug controlling Rami and his cockroach friend on his shoulder 😭. The panel where Zoe remembered his face being a smashed potato :qq: . Wonder if he too faced similar issues like the facsimile ramus and had trouble making friends, hence why he adopted that cockroach as one

So, even if they kill the Garland, it will be pointless because her power would go back to the empire tower?
What happens to rami that die outside the range of towers?

The powers of Rami who die outside of any range probably goes nowhere and is lost. So it'd probably be a while before another magnetism power like Carl's develops for someone else

It's been implied that stored powers don't last forever:
  1. At the outset of the Land of Slaves campaign, the Mirror can only open 5 more portals before it breaks. As of Ch 24, 2 of these have already been used.
  2. Then in Ch 25,
the weight-changing power ran out and the Papal forces no longer have access to it.
In the case of the Garland, I can't imagine a stored version of their power can have too many charges. Probably 2 or 3 at most.

Moreover, whereas the Garland herself is now the one to gather the requisite energy to unleash her strikes, should the Tower have to be the one to wield her stored power, then it'd likely further drain the Tower's longevity.
