My head canon about him is, he's as bad as he looks, but he sees looking after his people and his allies as part of looking after himself. He's on the 'good' side for entirely pragmatic reasons. That's why he doesn't hesitate to rip anyone else a new one if it suits his purposes.

I'm glad they brought back the dad. I'm curious to see how that will go for him and Elma. My guess is that seeing his son lead a team will cause him to finally understand the need for change and rely on others, like the other nobles.

This was a great stage to set for the upcoming arc. Damn. The hype built from these big wigs and the justice boner from knowing Elma’s dad is actually suffering from the decisions he’s made just hit all the right tones. The sweet spot would have been telling the count that the son he banished was responsible for taking down an A-rank adventurer and finding out the entire conspiracy, but the mangaka wants to edge us even harder. This campaign in the forest is going to be so damn good.

I appreciate that although harden is quite harsh to everyone, that he took a lot of time this chapter to bluntly state just how foolish it is to banish your own child simply for not having a fancy class.

Especially bad considering the people shortage....I guess Elma's father thought one high class job could save the family from the tides of time. And fulfil his arrogant idea of how heroes should be.

They are all some kind of chuuni or another, the Dad looks like he's aiming for a superhero or paladin look, with the big star spangled shoulder pads and cape.
