@rinnieee_e I think the issue is timing. The marriage is supposed to secure both their statuses, so it would look bad if rumors of her courting a common bodyguard were floating around. Plus, imperial harems exist for siring heirs. A man can impregnate multiple women at once. A woman can only get pregnant with one man at a time. It's a completely different story if he sires a bastard versus her.

He's definitely got a childhood trauma. There's no way he'd be so fcked up for no reason, especially when we see that his brother is perfectly normal.
It reeks of abandonment issues. It's so ingrained in him that he couldn't pretend loving her even for the sake of creating distance between Hong Lyon and Baek Han.

I really like how this manhwa has built up the characters so far. The three central characters (I mean Hong Lyon, Dowun, and his brother; I'm more attached to the brother than the bodyguard) are really just products of their environments, and never had the opportunity to actually be kids. It makes sense, given the positions they were born into, and I think that's really interesting, seeing that reflected in their current personalities.

Childhood trauma for the win. Give me that delicious, delicious angst. I wouldn't be surprised if Dowun's brother bears a grudge with Hong Lyon because of what she did, or has trust issues because of it. She really didn't have a choice back then - I don't think so, she was just a kid wanting a place to belong, to expect her to speak out for what's right is too much - and that makes the decision hurt more. Still waiting to get some development/background on Dowun.

Man, I hope this thing has a happy ending. Feels like it won't. I want my kids to be happy. Y'know, after all the suffering is done.

Lyon still loves Dowun, she should stop being immature and emotional like this, stop seeking love from him altogether, move on and make a choice. Will she pick a status and marry w/o love all her life... (i doubt the empress can have concubine) or cease all the relationship with him & fight! topple him down with his entire clan, makes him her enemy or release all... give it to Dowun and go somewhere else to bang with the bodyguard if it's love that she really wants.

not expecting it to be a happy ending, it'll be more interesting if it shouldn't, one of them deserves to go down.

It makes so much sense for her to love Dowun though, he is literally the main/only reason why she got to escape the shitty life that was given to her. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the only guy she actively interacts with, until Baek Han came around anyways.

When she was younger she used to wear it on her finger but she realized Dowun didn't wear it and stopped I think, but I guess she couldn't bear to take it off completely. Last chapter she asked/mentioned that Dowun still never wore it and he's like blah blah we're getting married soon and will get new rings so what does it even matter? Also the way he was acting and semi mocking her made her finally rip it off.
