I never expected a fortune cookie to be the straw that broke the camel's back.
If I remember correctly, her supposed reason for staying and hanging around aside from staying nearby due to work, was to develop closer ties with Mitsuki and support her in doing what Joe didn't, maybe even bring her along with her. That could be an interesting conflict going forward, and also put pressure on Joe to step up.

So you’re saying she showed up to try and convince her ex’s child (more or less) to come with her overseas as a manipulation tactic to get her ex to move overseas… but he needs to “step up”?

stay toxic, queens ✌️😜

Y’all are NUTS.

”I can’t just abandon a child!”
”Well, I’m going.”
”If that’s what you need to do.”
and somehow he wasn’t trying hard enough or something?

and then when she comes back, she’s all friendly and insinuates herself into their lives
“it’s been great having you here.“
”Well, it would have been great having you there!”
and y’all are still blaming him!
She can make her own choices. NO MEANS “NO”, NOT “TRY HARDER”!

She’s toxic, selfish, manipulative and has shit taste in hairstyles.
Kanna kanna stay ’round me or mine, cuz she’s shite!

and of course it’s a fortune cookie. She must be an asparagus.

Oh, no! He respected her decision!
How dare he agree to allow her to live her life how she wanted!

It’s totally not toxic to expect someone to take “no” as “try harder”!
You are weirdly trying to attribute malice to a situation where there is none.

When she said about her plans overseas, he just went "ok cool, take care". If you can not understand how a response like that would be spirit breaking and final for a woman in love (or anyone really) i don't know what to tell you.

For the last time, she is not upset because he choose to raise his niece instead of coming with her.

Literally all I ever see on your brain is "woman hate man," like there's no other alternative. Go to therapy. Or stop hurting yourself and go read yaoi.
It's like you don't see all the open men bashing, all the essays explaining why he was at fault for everything, and then turn around, look at me, and go "WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS?"

Okay?

The fact that this is a trope that happens regardless of gender means it's not a gendered scenario. Joe and Kanna are literally a foil of what Mitsuki and Aya (reminder: 2 women) can be. You argued "it's his fault because he's the man." Your prejudice has nothing to do with what anyone else is arguing, like thinking fire has more valuable properties than water just because you like the color red.

Show me who blames or bashes him because he's a man. The last time I asked a similar question you gave me some BS "imagine this" reply, so I ask again: show me which comments aside from your own say in clear words that he's at fault because he is a man.

I and probably many others don't look over or apply anything Joe does to you bc you have no impact or influence on this manga or its characters. If I ever ask "why are you like this," it's about you personally, not other men. You've got some messed up insecurities that you're prioritizing as blame on gender before anything else and you're only hurting yourself doing this. Get help.

I disagree with everything you just said.

No, she wants Mitsuki to come overseas with her because she genuinely likes her and wants to see her succeed
No, according to these guys, she is the devil incarnate on a misson to destroy Joe's and Mitsuki's life out of malice. Just like how story portrayed her so far. Oh wait...

I asked them a question about what they meant.

and regarding your claim; Succeed at what, how?
She has romance on the horizon, friends, is still in school…
”Hey, how about you leave your life behind and leave the country!”

…Whyyyy?

The fact that it’s four pages a week is catching up to the dramatic stakes

You posted the most malicious interpretation of what they meant. And typed a question mark at the end, which I guess makes it into a question.

At whatever it is that she is trying to achieve, becoming a musician/songwriter maybe? The author does not go into details, but everyone in the story believes that moving there is the best opportunity to succeed at what she wants to do. Mitsuki knows this, Joe knows this, Kanna knows this from her own experience.
is still in school…
She is about to graduate, I don't assume Kanna expects Mitsuki to abandon everything right this moment.

”Hey, how about you leave your life behind and leave the country!”
Kanna is not kidnapping her, Kanna is giving her an opportunity that she may decide not to act upon. Kanna could not have both romance and career, Mitsuki may very well succeed at both, like inviting Aya with her, or having a happy long distance relationship in the age of communications?

If you're going to argue this, then you should be accurate as to what happened. Joe never said "ok cool, take care". Nor is that even implied. Rather the opposite was implied. He wanted to go with her, but in the end raising Mitsuki was more important. This is covered (very briefly since this is a short form manga) back in ch 49.

People here are clearly having major differences in evaluation of the situation, but we can all at least do that on the foundation of what is actually written in the manga, rather than some inaccurate projection.

PS: Also in ch 49, she broke down in tears because Joe would not come with her to LA. And she did that because he chose to stay in Japan and raise Mitstuki instead. So she definitely was upset about it back then.

I thought it was obvious what he didn't say for everyone who can read. What he really didn't say was "stay with me". You don't need to approach every exchange in such a literal way. This is a story. He didn't say "stay" so its pretty much "ok cool, take care" in her eyes which means he didn't even think about asking her to stay.

What do you think "you didn't wish for us to become a family" mean? His refusal to leave Mitsiku and go to US with her?
