Yes, offer up your fucking neck you piece of shit "father." You don't even deserve to be considered a father. You and that king both should die horrible deaths. Same with his son. End the line since it's full of trash anyways.

Scarlet's brother is fine so he can live on.

That piece of shit father deserves all the suffering he can ever have. And there was a way, fuck the kingdom, just accept being a vassal state to the other country. Your pride to keep your nation killed innocents. Could have been avoided if you just contacted the country and willingly submitted. There's no reason to assume they'd treat you badly beyond just demanding taxes/payment regularly. Fuck them all. That kingdom deserves to die if its leadership are this shit and unjust.
This is a dumb take. You have no idea what surrendering would do, even if they had it's not guaranteed the transition of power would be peaceful. They could kill all the men and children, take people's homes and land displace thousands. I think they should have tried to fake her death and moved her out of the country. But surrender isn't a guarantee of peace.

Nobody talking about the fact that it was Connine who went and slapped the duke instead of Scarlet. She is my spirit animal

I forgot about Maximillian. So is Maximillian is Scarlet's brother from different mother?

Man.. this chapter is so heavy and probably the best chapter we ever had by far. What a fantastic daughter. Scarlet bring salvation to her dad and now her dad can finally move on.
Yes. He's the son of Duke Castiel's first wife.

It's a classic trolley problem of one innocent life (Scarlet) for hundreds of thousands of lives across the country and continent.

There's no guarantee that becoming the vassal state of Faris is better for Adelbide and its citizens. On top of that, the Faris empire used to stretch across the continent... and I could be wrong, but I believe there are more than two countries in the current continent.

Even if a war is completely avoided, what's to say that the resulting impoverishment of Adelbide doesn't directly lead to more deaths for socioeconomic and political reasons? Why would a newly empowered empire care about the plebeians and commoners of a nation that it was already planning to go to war against? It could easily lead to extreme taxation and exploitation contributing to countless thousands to be incapable of supporting themselves and providing for their families.

Oh you sweet summer children.

Later both this and the bastard king want to behead Connie just like they did yo Scarlet.

Once again with the same excuse FOR MUH COUNTRY.

And they would have succeeded if not for Scarlet using her remaining life force to stop it.

So that's why I feel disgust whenever I read anyone showing any form of empathy towards the bastard that killed his daughter.
To me he's not sad that he lost wife and daughter, he's sad he got exposed and feeling the stares makes him uncomfortable. That's it.

The dude get the second chance but still haven't told her that he love her....
I think this was his third chance, first with his wife, then with his daughter then this one.
i loooove when proud men who have been forcing themselves to act strong crumble because of love
fantastic execution 10/10 would decapitate his daughter again
This is hilarious because he would do that.

Plus the people currently running Faris (the whatever numbered Prince and his gang) are basically corrupt thugs who only want Adelbide for its resources. Adelbide would get completely screwed over in any annexation and get completely stripmined of its resources (both natural and civilian) and probably just turn into a poor and drug addicted region run by gangsters and the nobles that profit from those gangsters/suck up to the rulers in Faris.

Actually the "no guarantee" part is why trolley problems are not really similar to real life problems.

Realistically, they didn't know for sure that even with her execution, they will be able to stay the general's execution without Faris successfully countering their efforts, or that it was impossible to save general without sacrificing Scarlet. Even now, the current state is that Faris is about to attack anyway, just decade later and with Adelbide's having better defense. Without Scarlet becoming haunting ghost, most probably all they would get would be getting annexed by Faris happening a decade later.

And there is of course no easy way to say how bad or not-so-bad would be being annexed by Faris. Could be bad, could be just fine for vast majority of the citizens. And Abelbide is not that great of a place anyway, what with all those corrupt nobles.

He bottled his emotions and numbed himself to the pain of sacrificing his child for the nation and its people. His encounter with Connie gave him permission to grieve for a daughter he felt unworthy of allowing himself to grieve for. Nothing about his conduct or character makes me think his opinions changed at all just from being 'exposed'.

If someone's comment seems to be particularly unhinged, explaining reality to them sadly not be enough to change their opinion.

Another story where a man sacrifices a woman without barely any repercussions. If it was the dude's son he would have done everything in his power to save him lol.

He gets to feel sorry for himself and do NOTHING so his daughter's death is not in vain. I knew it would kinda go like that but it's still very unsatisfying.

This man's fucking pathetic.
It's not even that he didn't have the foresight to protect her way ahead of time (he obviously knew she was a risk, and should have taken steps instead of being blindsided), and it's not even that he didn't save her in the moment (he could have, he just chose not to), but it's that he did NOTHING to get revenge for her, nothing to take down the people responsible for her death. He just wallowed in self-pity and told himself he had no other choice. What a cowardly weak man, he gets no sympathy from me.

Wait until next arc.
I'll wait to see if you think the same way then.

There's no guarantee it'd be bad either. Why do you assume the worst without any evidence otherwise? Surrender and save innocents vs sacrificing any innocents for the sake of their own power? Fuck em

Again, there's no guarantee that they'd be worse off either. Usually in the past when a lot of nations surrendered and became vassal states it was not nearly as horrific as you all seem to think. The only thing done was sending tributes was basically taxes. Big fucking whoop.

See, piece of shits deserve the death. They aren't doing it for the people or the good of the nation, they are doing it for themselves. The selfish cunts they are.
