What were those useless knight escorts doing the whole time? Weren't they just above on the cliff?
Even if they couldn't reach the river down below right away, I'd expect them to have observed everything from above at least and then know what happened.

Two things I don't get. If the arabella really dies... I mean what the fuck ? It's been a thousand years, that an arabella is chosen every 8. That's about 125 arabella's who have died on the clock... And nobody knows about it ? Like seriously ?
Also, considering how much time the author spends saying how the duchess' family is so strong nobody can hurt them and they can even destroy the empire on their own... Why don't they ? Just kill that dowager bitch.

Anyway, just ranting, nevermind me.

@Doenyon that’s my point!!! I asked the same question at least two times in the previous chapter but who knows, I didn’t get an answer 🤷🏻‍♀️
About the duchess, she probably doesn’t want to take the burden of ruling the country, so she stays loyal to the king 😂 what I really wonder is how the queen dowager is so powerful. I made this question several times (I’m repetitive 😭) but how can she have so much influence over the crown Prince when he’s not even her child? She was the wife of the late emperor, so she’s more like a grandmother lol. But they’re not related by blood. Still, she can decide his fiancée...? 🥸

@Lycentia ah, very interesting stuff. In europe a Dowager really isn't much.
But still, it does not quite fill the reason why the Duchess can't just off her. The author does keep repeating she's the most powerfull in the world and nothing can go against her.
Maybe she's still fond of that friend who betrayed her ? Which would still be quite odd as the Duchess does not seem shy of killing people.

One of the Arabella is the daughter of the greatest and most powerful warrior of the kingdom, her family is known for being really powerful and ruthless. Is it really that weird that said daughter is really powerful and able to fight wolves?

@Brightamethyst @mahtan Isn't that because she's not blood-related? You've got this family of four tall, buff, strong af people, and then Leslie who could still probably be picked up and carried like a child by any of the rest of her family. I don't remember what chapter, but there was a visual metaphor of the family that had Leslie as a little rabbit with four wolves clustered around her. We know she's strong, she can wield a blade, has op shadow magic, but as far as everyone else is concerned, she's a little bunny that joined a wolf pack

Man, though, I hope Leslie actually goes to the duchess and tattles on the priest, instead of snooping around herself and falling into a Third Act Misunderstanding. I get that it would up the dramatic tension or w/e but honestly I'd rather have the tension revolve around Leslie preparing to face whatever the dowager's death plans are than "oh nooooo my mother actually doesn't love me even though she's spent the last 5 years showing me love in both word and deed"

I get that Leslie is supposed to be this tiny waif no one suspects, but I don't get why she's still hiding her powers. She won the noble trial and she's getting to be too old to be absorbed into the royal house. Outside of habit, there's no good reason she can't just declare herself the OP protag and go on living her life.

@doenyon that same thing is driving me crazy. If every arabella dies, the entire damn country would know it an consider it a sacrifice after just a few cycles. I'm hoping that somehow something's been misread or mistranslated because otherwise this arebella dying nonsense is a plot hole so damn big the titanic could fit through it.

@Secuthar @doenyon none of the previous Arabella died, they only renewed the seal at the ceremony. Leslie is in danger because Medea decided to release the illness now, and the duchess tried to prevent it by choosing an unknown girl who could become a sacrifice (or maybe be smart enough to prevent it from happening)
But this is in no way a plot hole.
