I disagree. I don't think that was what she was getting at. How I read it, especially with page 31 isn't that MC should never give love a try. It was the opposite.

"It may have ended up not working out and resulted in heartbreak, but I don't think falling in love with that girl was a mistake."

She's saying MC should give love a try regardless, and offering to be a shoulder to cry on in case things go wrong. I don't think the stylist did anything wrong, she simply tried to give advice from past experience.

Yeah this is definitely the advice to give love a try and totally not reaffirming the MC's resolve to stay as just friends. Reading comprehension 10/10.

I mean, it's pretty clear that Saki came out of that scared and dejected and the hairdresser was even called out on it afterwards
What are you talking about? She comes out of it happy. Her mom even says she looks lighter than she has in a while. The hair dresser was just pointing out it was an extremely personal topic to discuss with a customer, not that it was bad. You and the other negative poster are the ones with the bad reading comprehension.

It came across to me that the stylist had a few points to make:

-Romance at an all-girl school happens (validating Saki's feelings)
-Just because both people are girls doesn't mean there won't be complications
-Make sure the relationship is actually what both people want
-Even if it doesn't go as she hopes, that means that doesn't mean it was wrong to take the chance
-If Saki needs to talk about that stuff, the stylist is there for her

She wasn't deterring Saki from taking the chance, but rather encouraging her, while still making sure she understands that it might not be perfect or risk-free. That's just how I read the conversation, at least.

Alright, cool, just call us negative.

She did cheer up by the end of it when she was told that she'd eventually be able to get over it and that she had someone she could finally talk to about these things, but you can't deny that the actual story left her completely deflated to the point that they didn't speak for the rest of the appointment. Saki internalizes her doubts and worries and doesn't have high self esteem when it comes to her attraction, much like Shino and Nozomi have issues with their insecurities in Kuzushiro's other work. It seemed pretty clear to me that similar to the situation with Kanon's sister leading Saki to feel guilty over her attraction, this story will lead to more internal struggle over her feeling a "one-sided" love. You can disagree, but try to avoid being rude, I read the same chapter as you did and just have a different take.

While a few chapters back this manga had some less bright moments with its philosophy, im happy that its focusing on the yuri and not teaching us not-well-thought-through morals. Please dont fuck it up.
This chapter was filled to the brim with talk about morality lmao, not sure how you would think that this is any different from before.

I guess I gotta jog your memory to a previous chapter to remind you how Saki was drowning in guilt for holding feelings of attraction towards another girl

She had been worrying about remaining as friends or coming out with her feelings. See how this is her dejected wish right before she walks inside the parlor.

The internal dilemma was killing her. Then she just got told by the hairdresser that it was okay to remain as just friends and that her "unfulfilled love is also a right kind of love". That not only took the weight of her internal struggle off her heart but also the guilt associated with it. Of course she'd look uplifted afterwards. Someone just told her it's okay to keep loving other girls while still being friends. But doing this is also discouraging her from coming out of the closet. The hairdresser had trauma from coming out with her feelings and she wanted Saki to avoid a similar fate of getting tragically rejected. It boggles my mind how you see the outcome of their exchange as positive just because Saki was chipper afterwards.

Hard disagree. Nothing in her story suggested that. Her story simply said that it does not always work out and that even if it doesn't life moves on after it. Please point out where she tells her to give up and stay in the closet? Because she ends with this:

Falling in love is NOT synonymous with acting on it. The entire point of her story was the tragic experience she suffered when she innocently got into a relationship with her friend without knowing better. She says she does not regret falling for her but she also said that "unfulfilled love can also be the right kind", and to Saki who who was deliberating on just staying friends with Kanon before, this comes as a relief. Now she can feel that her one-sided love for Kanon is also "right" and she does not feel like she has "ulterior motives" for staying friends with Kanon anymore, effectively absolving her of any guilt she was feeling. Hence the happy mood at the end.

Because this time around the author actually makes sense and doesnt try to explain more wobbly concepts. Love between girls has been discussed in yuri to death, so of course it makes sense when the author can fall back to these ideas.

the author (and tler) did an alright job of explaining the difference between equity and equality, assuming that's what your talking about

It feels like people make fun of it but her issue with being able to understand the lines but not get the sound effects are why these days we're getting things like the subtitles of Stranger Things saying "wet squelching" when creepy tentacle stuff squelches wetly.
