I find this arc pretty tiresome honestly. Like, this Japanese honorable duel between men shit is just cringe. And like, the MC sells his former allies into slavery and throws that little girl under the bus, which is fine cause he's like a ruthless asshole antihero, but then all of a sudden he goes all soft over that samurai dude for some reason. I liked him better when he was just a douche who would resort to any dirty trick to win and didn't give a fuck about anybody.

Nah, it's not just that, cause:

if it was just about him wanting strong allies, he wouldn't be trying to convince him to kill him to save himself, he wouldn't prioritize the samurai's life over his own. Because who cares if you have strong allies when you're dead? And it's not just some facade, he even thinks to himself that what he's saying doesn't make sense and that he "he couldn't help himself", so he's acting emotionally and not rationally. He just feels bad for him. So, bro, I think you're the one who read it wrong, how could you miss that?

Really tho how could I miss that. Definitely mb But like, this is maybe just me projecting but if you look at page 7 chap 19 (don't know how to put a pic sadge) seeing the top right and bottom left panel makes me think that what he did here makes a bit of sense. And also the cut out stuff from the novel also feels like it might help on why he did this cause it does seem like his "mentality" is more complex than it shows in the manga. Definitely my bad but to me, it did feel a bit natural
