The core of this reminds me of old niche classics like Black Cat or Get Backers and I really love the vibe of it but the modern aspects are just so. How do I say it. Under these circumstances it is impossible for me to suspend my disbelief, it is too silly, should've just gone with that very charming "bratty smart mc who takes no shit, has 0 tolerance for fake brainlets, and it just works out for him" premise instead of repeatedly insisting that he's some sort of manipulative mastermind (one of several tropes of modern shonen fantasies) because he is not. I like mc a lot to be clear, dont think he's mean or inconsistent at all it'd be less relatable if he was too logical. It would be super charming if the narrative just owned it, ie. he knew the plans are full of holes but pushed his luck anyway because he wouldnt accept any less and luck is always on his side. Agreed with comment above cast interaction is this story's strength.
