Switzerland has one of the highest gun to population ratios. 2 million guns.

Switzerland's crime data is available to anyone. Somewhere around half of homicides attempted and committed were by foreigners. Your concerns about unreported crime are unfounded.

They don't really have much of a violence problem there.

So, again, Switzerland seems to have it figured out.

edit: regardless of all that, the point is that despite having so many guns per person, their gun crime is really, really low.

Defund the police doesn’t mean get rid of all police It means stop using cops as a fix all tool for every social problem. Just as the gun control just means making it slightly harder for less then clean people to acquire fully automatic rifles and maybe have mandatory background checks and gun safety classes at a federal level? To disarm an entire populace is stupid there was that one dwarf fortress where the nobles had mandated for weapons to slowly only be allowed for soldiers eventually I couldn’t get my dwarfs to lynch the nobles as their demands meant the entire fortress sunk closer and closer to ruin with a goblin raid finishing them off. It’s called gun control not gun ban.

Most developed countries in the world seem to not have to protect themselves; maybe because the people have less aggressive culture or they have competent cops... but most likely contributor is that cops that are more likely to get shot at will more likely shoo at others, ergo the people the cops shoot will want to protect themselves even more... Not by peaceful negotiations but getting more weapons

Which boils back down to politicians not giving a shit about their constituents.
There wouldn't be as many crime issues if corporations (encouraged by politicians via tax credits) weren't eroding job opportunities by either outsourcing everything or importing labor from abroad.
You can easily fix all of this stuff and yet politicians won't because those bribes will stop being mailed if shareholders aren't looting their own country.

Most people in the US or anyone critical of it don't really put in the effort to look up what they're saying.
They just hear something from social media, late night TV or a talking head on the news and just repeat it endlessly like a broken record.

Most of the anti-cop crowd believes the movement is one thing when the current figureheads actually mean another: they don't want cops, at all.
They want zero law enforcement because apparently being held accountable for anti-social behavior is racist.
And apparently cops defending themselves in extremely high stress situations where split seconds can possibly cause bigger fuckups than one person getting shot is supposedly an epidemic founded on police hungering for blood (people actually believe this...).
Apparently making a tough choice (the trolley problem) is the equivalent of Klan lynchings from the 1800-1900s.

Gun control isn't about strengthening laws on sales, we have a lot of laws already restricting gun sales.
The people who want this stuff want total bans because they don't understand that this stuff varies from state to state.
States rights mean nothing to them because big daddy government is all they ever want.

We have federal laws already restricting what you can buy.
The state laws restrict who can buy what and where they can buy it.

You CANNOT buy full auto unless you are either:
a) a museum
b) a business that allows people to fire weapons restricted to the public
c) a FEDERALLY MONITORED private collector

Federally monitored private collectors are usually weapon smiths who are also military contractors, ie they know more about guns than you and I ever would.

But people mod things!

Are we going to install more government home monitoring systems beyond cellphones and computers?

We have background checks already, they are a hassle (as they should be) and are meant to be applied for right as you put down a deposit.
You need to wait TWO WEEKS before you get cleared, if something suspicious comes up you might be called into the police for questioning if its possibly a misunderstanding.
You are required by law to take a minimum four hour basic safety course in every state with concealed carry permits*.
The people who want more control live in coastal cities with high population density.

*the police are fully authorized to shoot at you (at will) if you do not declare that you have a concealed carry permit if they notice a gun on you while they are on patrol (this is only in states with permits).
Getting pulled over anywhere and not declaring CAN and WILL not end well for you.

The fact that the US will be majority Latino by 2040 scares black people and yet simultaneously emboldens them in this behavior. Latinos do not like black people at all from what I’ve seen.
