Christ I shouldn't have come here...

Never learn what people's politics are, peeps. It makes you like them significantly less if you aren't on the same page.

there are many interpretations of the three monkeys covering their eyes, mouth, and ears. theres the intended interpretation of preventing the intake and spread of evil but can also be seen in a more negative light. it can also be see as a bullheaded rejection of the reality around them

The fact i got far enough to be able to talk politics is enough for me.

Our economy is too far gone to save. Fiat currency sucks, the sooner everything collapses, the sooner we can start recovering.

That's why i'm glad Biden won the election

@bigtiddyoneesan In the interest of not getting myself embroiled in 100+ pages of political arguments/insults...AGAIN, I refuse to divulge my politics in this thread.

A conservative lawyer pointed out that the acquittal encourages future presidents to break the law. https://www.democracynow.org/2021/2/15/bruce_fein_trump_impeachment_trial_acquittal

But on the flip side, it makes you like them significantly more if they're based.
Yeah, that’s kind of cringe, not gonna lie.

It’s an even more moronic version of AOC’s shitlist.

Plus thinking of someone as based just because of a certain opinion they might hold is just nonsensical.

Would you call a random self-hating nonwhite based if they advocated for self-genocide?

No, you wouldn’t cause that’s dumb. It’s the same nonsense as “/pol/‘s based black man.”

As much as I like Candace Owens, the fact that the Republicans put her front and center for almost everything regarding black people and women is funny and sad.
It’s the same emotional pitfall that NPC leftists fall into.

It was more tongue in cheek, but there is some truth to it.

Obviously you're more likely to get along with someone who holds the same views as you as opposed to someone who holds views you wouldn't agree with in a million years. That's what I was conveying.

Nope, still not going to. Nice bait there though, @wowfucktron.

I've spent countless hours arguing on the internet with people absolutely fixed in their opinions. It's worthless and I inevitably always feel worse during and after. I suppose there's some performative reasons for doing so, if you feel there is enough of an audience reading or watching whatever it is you're arguing about and you think you can do well enough to debunk their arguments. Otherwise, you're just feeding into everyone's confirmation biases and negative partisanship. Also it's suuuper frustrating. I'm sure you all can relate, lol.

Trump breaks laws
And? Every President has. What makes this one more egregious than other Presidents?

The mean things he says online? Or is it the fact that the Media doesn’t like him.

Obama committed war crimes, human rights violations, broke the Geneva Convention once and set up the groundwork for your inevitable cries of migrant abuses.

Trump followed precedent from Obama, does this mean Obama needed to be impeached for breaking the law?

Bush Jr. leveled Iraq and Afghanistan over faulty information, violated international law over invasion procedure, enacted wildly illegal civil liberties violations and enabled Israel to commit their human rights violations of the Palestinians.

Trump followed precedent from Jr., does that mean Jr. needed to be impeached?

Clinton, lel, I don’t want to be found having committed suicide with two gun shot wounds to the back of the head...

I think I know why exactly people don’t like him: he said mean words during his campaign.

I don't think anyone's baiting you into anything though. We're not going to judge everyone who stumbles into this thread as an 'ally' or 'enemy' or force them to make a stance on whatever we're talking about when they don't choose to involve themselves in it. Your concerns about political discussions devolving aren't unfounded though.

Case in point, @wowfucktron. You're very much unlikely to convince anyone about anything about Trump. We've all already made up our minds. But it's like there's a bone stuck in your throat that you can't get out. An itch you can't scratch. It makes you angry. I feel it too, honestly.

That feeling? It's impotence.

We have no power. Not in the grand scheme of things. Oh, but we can carve out little spaces online where we feel superior to other people and stroke our own egos and hammer away at our perceived 'enemies'. Is that what we're all doing here?

@bigtiddyoneesan I'm just blackpilled on online debates. Even if the bait wasn't for me, specifically, it still exists.

It wasn’t bait...
We aren’t forcing anyone to agree or disagree with anything.

I was just pointing out that lowering or raising your opinion of someone in regards to their world view is stupid.

@bigtiddyoneesan
'ally' or 'enemy'
I hate this dichotomy so fucking much.

It’s so blatantly divisive and I don’t know how the people who use it don’t realize how destructive it is. Well, maybe they do...

Not forcing, no, but the stuff under your spoiler tag three comments back is designed to enrage, unless I miss my mark. If I misunderstand your intent, then fine, but it feels like a fishook to me.

I was just pointing out that lowering or raising your opinion of someone in regards to their world view is stupid.

Really? I mean, if someone's worldview is utterly abhorrent to you, how on earth would your opinion not lower?

I wouldn't go as far as to say that, as you'd have to be a legit ultra-enlightened monk or something (which no one is) to actually apply it. As an example, it's completely rational to look at the people who created and enforced the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) and lower your opinion of them. This is separate from attempting to understand their motives, of course, which is pretty much always useful to some extent.
It’s so blatantly divisive and I don’t know how the people who use it don’t realize how destructive it is. Well, maybe they do...
Yeah. Those who realize it and choose to utilize it or even just go along with it are proportionally just as dangerous as those who are unaware of it.

You know, I think I might just be a little overly tolerant of others...

Maybe I’m just jaded and have come to not expect much from other people or I have really thick skin.

I kind of feel like you guys are implying I should become a reactionary...
I really hope that’s not it.

@kaldrak
I usually rely on stupid/extreme examples like that genocide one due to being autistic and it makes for decent imagery, I guess.

@bigtiddyoneesan
>CHAZ
I am beyond jealous that they got away with that.
>tfw no ancap colony in Detroit
why even live?

My opinions of others aren’t lowered via comments on the web, I assume most use it to vent anonymously.

IRL my opinions are only really lowered via actions.
Even then, it usually is only lowered in response to sexual violence and child abuse.

ultra-enlightened monk
I might be sniffing my own farts here, but sometimes I honestly believe I am compared to most people.

I rarely feel anger over anything beyond something I did myself.
Sometimes I don’t come across that way but that’s because text makes it hard for people like me, sperglords, to communicate neutrally.
I’m pretty passive IRL in regards to things that don’t affect me, interest me or aren’t my business...
