I wish Mitch didn’t fuck over the country by refusing to interview Garland...

For a guy who is pretty smart, I honestly started questioning his intelligence the moment he did that. How he didn’t foresee the current state of the US political fervor stemming from that is beyond me.

But I don’t want to see him go because if you guys think it’ll get better...well...it’ll be a gamble because I’m sure you’ll love the next in line.

@tamerlane
Most of the US’s problems with rabidity in regards to congressional conservatives stems from McConnell’s refusal on Garland. At least the current strain of rabies.

He fucked the country over by revealing that he’s drunk on power and wants to play royal confidant. He’s most likely in China’s pocket in my mind but that’s from a bunch of other things for a different discussion.

I feel like you’re approaching your “debate” with Halo in the wrong way. Well actually, your failing to see Halo’s point of view which is why I put debate in quotes.

The supreme court is the most important part of the American government. Getting fucked out of it by bullshit that all politicians rely on, archaic legal nonsense, will leave a bad taste in anyone’s mouth.

Trump himself didn’t do it, but Halo and similar minded individuals are projecting their frustrations and anger onto Trump due to McConnell’s O My End of Term. Every side does something like this.

“Packing the courts” to dems is just a short handed jingoistic way to say “Wow, you guys get all these ways to stay in power without the media backing you up? Let me screech and cry about ‘systemic cheating’ nonstop despite being able to turn everything around with a little spending and voter organization!”

It all amounts to frustration over the other side being able to take advantage of things the other side wants to take advantage of too.

Because you know what they say about people who assume?
That people who repeat this phrase are morons seeking to appeal to their own self interpretation of their own intelligence (usually inflated) in a cop out by invoking random fallacies?

Please don’t do this...you’re ruining my image of you.

@hornyturtle
Just let poor people take the vaccine before you. If any of them start to develop some bitchin’ wings or catgirls/boys emerge, then I’m going all in on that vaccine by drinking vials nonstop.

If it’s more like my neighbor down the street who lost his sense of smell and taste after the vaccine and just so happened to be an “outlier” then I’ll wait for more test subjects.

Das’ muh stratagem.

@Halo The riots weren't impossible to predict. Trump was making tweets telling people to go to DC, people were making TikToks and I know Instagram posts about it.

Did you think they all gathered there by coincidence? Nah, they planned it on social media. Some even ordered custom t shirts.

The point I was trying to make was that you shouldn't assume or infer people's motives without a direct line of reasoning because unintended outcomes and consequences is very common. Unless he has a something substantive by which he can base his claims on, he's just making an ass of himself.

I also try to cite fallacies and explain why the line of logic doesn't work or why the reasoning is faulty as well, as not to commit the fallacy-fallacy. You still have to explain why the logic is wrong, which I try to do.

How about this. [sic] You can keep talking about the imminence of civil war 2.0 because of Joseph, and I keep on blaming Donald for the insurrection he attempted to stage?
I think it's a pretty good deal.
@Halo

My fears around a potential civil war is not comparable to something which outright has not been adequately demonstrated. I will freely admit that my point of view around that is speculative, as opposed to your point of view, which makes definitive claims about intention and motives.

Also my fear is not that Joe Biden will be the cause for a civil war, but that his inaction may be a catalyst for larger cultural issues that have been stirring for a very long time to lead to irreconcilable conflict.

You're free to believe whatever you want, but I'm also free to say it's bullshit and provide a good line of logic as to why. If you can do the same for my issues with the hyperpolarization of society and the inability to bridge the divide within the nation, I'm all ears, but I'm going off what I can see.

Speaking of mind readers, FBI says it warned about prospect of violence ahead of riot
How cool is that our government agencies have freaking psychics capable of seeing into the feature? [sic]

Read the article, it straight up admits that they changed their story a week after the riot compared to immediately after events.

Even then, I was referring to you assuming that Trump INTENDED it to turn violent, and not whether or not it had the possibility of that it COULD turn violent. Pretty much any large gathering of people CAN turn violent, but it doesn't mean they WILL.

Keep punching that strawman, you'll get 'em eventually.

Everyone’s going to bring their biases into politics. You just need to figure out where those biases are coming from and position yourself around that.

It’s futile for one side to bring logic into a discussion when the other side intends to do engagement via deflections or trip ups. All sides do this.

On a similar note, fixating on logic doesn’t always make you correct nor does it actually help in most cases.
>muh shirou emiya

More often than not it just turns into a parallel of the NPC meme, endlessly repeating stuff while missing the point of what someone else is saying.

Now that would be my prediction as well, just based on Dems' incompetence to get something done. They are responsible for Donald, after all.

You mean D’Antuono's remark? Probably covering someone's ass, if I had to guess.

There's already been talks of it on the other side as well. Obviously that doesn't justify it, but this is the reality of the US at the moment.
It's not that far fetched to think that the US is just repeating its history in a bizarre fashion.

As much as I would love to see Texas secede just for Brexit memes times 100, this isn't going to happen.
Even Timur's Civil War II wet fantasy is more plausible than fucking Texas cutting itself from the States.

It would actually play out pretty differently than Brexit. Mexico would offer to "buy" Texas so to speak if Texas managed to fully break away.

California has the biggest economy of any state in the US and is the only state capable of being fully economically independent from the federal government, its the 7th largest economy on the planet IIRC. Texas' economy is tiny compared to California's, they'd bankrupt themselves in a month's time. Mexico would come in and offer support for optics reasons and also because they still want that land back.

The only reason it won't happen is because the military would immediately go in and suppress everything and everyone. Can't have breakaways because then the whole union will fracture down political lines even further.

He has a valid concern of citizens attempting, but politicians will make sure it won't.

“I’m sure I’m going to ruffle some feathers with what I’m about to say, especially given the athletes council that I’m on, but given the evolution of our quote unquote, progressive culture where everything offends everybody, those willing to take a knee for our anthem don’t care about defending half of our country and when they do so, then I don’t have too much concern in also exercising my First Amendment right,” Jahn said before the vote, pointing out his own Native American heritage.

Yet another evidence that Americans, especially the love-and-tolerant wokucks, should not get to lecture the world on freedom of speech.

Yep.
But even before that I don't see how exactly the GOP would allow the 38 electoral votes just to walk away. Same with democrats, Cali and their 55 votes.

Can't travel without a visa. Can't drive across the border. No military. Border sanctions and tariffs. Increased prices. Companies jumping the ship like rats. The idea of Mexico "owning" them just adds to the hilarity.

@wowfucktron neither one when compared to countries is exactly a slouch. In the long run, I believe both would pay a price they don't want to even if they could secede.

From what I'm seeing most of the charts California compares to Britain, India or France, Texas to Canada or Russia. Both states make it into the top ten when comparing them to nations. Most of the charts I see use gdp as the basis. From a debt perspective California is in a poorer position. It has three times the debt that Texas has, which while it may be minor, I'm wondering what the implication is on the states management. It would be interesting to see how the energy issue would play out. While Texas had problems this year it has also been a unique year in terms of weather. From a military protection side I don't see an issue for either. Even separate I have a hard time seeing the US letting them fall, militarily, into another country's hands vs maintaining independence, same actually for Canada and Mexico actually. See below for some additional effects and concerns.

I wouldn't wish this on any states residents but it would be interesting to see how it would actually play out in real life. Would probably make a good mini-series. Which companies would jump ship and which would stay? How many of the people would flee the state before the process was started and the effect that would have after secession? How long would the state destabilize? What would happen in the state as things like Welfare, Medicaid and Medicare are thrown into the mix? So many things would be affected and domino affects could occur.

Simply put, both sides are just boxing each other with arms up 25/8 and vehemently refuse to believe that their own side can do wrong - and if they did, it was the other side framing them.

Something something something "vocal minority," something something "dindu nuffin" something something, "attacking our Second Amendment."

@Kitsune_Hellscythe

Tribalism fucking sucks, my dude.

"The people I don't like agree with something, therefore it must be wrong," is a very faulty position based on guilt by association and not on the pursuit of truth or trying to find actual solutions to the problems.

If one person with an (R) next to their name takes a position and then another person with a (D) next to their name takes the opposite position just because the former person took the previous position, you're basically getting into a clash of paradigms where there is no easy solution.

I try to find what is true and logically consistent over what personally gives me emotional catharsis, which causes some disunity between me and most people.

@Tamerlane ; I find myself much more often than not just trying to avoid ig altogether in general, mostly due to personal experiences with how people react to such things - for example, that pro-Trump insurrection/riot - it's just a more recent instance of how people go way overboard with something they agree/disagree with and are more than willing to get hostile or aggressive over theie beliefs.
As for the last bit, the cynical and pesismistic being that I am, I find believing anything involving politics to be absurdly difficult because there's always something not being told in the story.

because there's always something not being told in the story.
There's an easy way to figure out what is being omitted in regards to this.
It just requires picking up a book on human history and a large dose of cynicism in regards to anyone claiming to be altruistic or having "your best intentions in mind."
