There's a locked post from 6 days ago. Methinks the mod is active. Besides, what are you seeing that makes you think the mod isn't active?

Is he one of the reddit mods that thinks they deserve sponsorships and celebrity level adoration?

Note: That was an awkward sounding sentence.
Nah the r manga mod is one of the few who does not act like a dictator. More like they barely do anything to be more exact. They pretty much let almost anything get posted there, and let the automod handle most of the work.

There's been a lot of shitty things going on in the manga subreddit, and the mod pretty much hasn't done anything to stop it. He did minimum effort until he just dissappeared a month ago, pretty much only deleting reposts and some unrelated posts.

One of the worst things with the manga subreddit is that reposts aren't allowed, and there's several people deliberately out to sabotage the releases of others. They do this mainly by posting the releases as only links to mangadex or cubari without posting it as a gallery, and usually with using the romanization of the name of the manga so it's hard to catch attention for people. This has made it impossible for people posting releases properly as galleries with english names, which would've garnered far more attention and promoted the releases far more. There are pretty much people there like wrexgigarton, maestro, and xical more or less treating it as their job to sabotage others. Wouldn't surprise me if they're actually paid by the industry like shueisha to do it, so shueisha's releases get more visibility.

Another thing is the spamming of spam posts and bot posts to hide releases. It can be completely silent on the subreddit for two hours in the dead of night, but immediately after someone posts a release that might be popular and hit the front page, there'll be tons of low quality shit posts and bot posts posted almost immediately afterwards trying to hide the releases. And the mod has pretty much not done anything about this. This really increased after that the vote manipulation was changed so it was harder to do after the IPO, so the people who was behind the vote manipulation to hide things they didn't want to be promoted, started spamming posts instead. Wouldn't surprise me if it was Shueisha behind this too, considering how much they use the subreddit to promote their stuff, and has tons of astroturfing comments in their releases. Several of their manga like Fire Punch and Chainsaw Man were astroturfed to death on other places like /a/ as well.

I honestly think it's good that the manga subreddit mod is gone. He did nothing of value, and now he won't delete reposts of people posting things properly. The only way to remove them is mass reporting, which of course happens and some things get removed occassionally, but at least things are able to stay on for a while until the manipulators have managed to mass report them. I say good riddance and hope he stays away really.

TLDR

Don't use reddit. Ever
