I'm guessing her mother didn't just go "oh no we made the townspeople mad, time to hide her in the forest forever". When she pulls out the bells in front of the prince, the prince realizes that they're for maintaining a barrier around the house, and aren't actually for bears, and right now as soon as she leaves her house this mysterious guy who associates with dragon kings finally senses her.

I would assume that her mother (who we know was apparently knowledgable about magic despite her actual ability) just figured something out when she saw her daughter's magic, and realized she had to hide her from greater powers. Though at that point, I'm surprised that her mom didn't mention anything about it in the letter she left for her (like "oh btw now that you're older and on your own, the demon king or whoever's gonna come after you"), which seems a little dumb, but at least that's not being as terrible a mother if it turns out she was just trying to keep her younger daughter safe.

@WhimsiCat @Salfaro Thanks you for your replies and arguments. Love it :) @Salfaro I agree, that’s also what I understood of this chapter.

And for the mother, that’s why I said it’s probably her way of protecting her child.
But, I still think it’s a wrong way. I know the mother feared bad things happen to her child since she’s special so good point for putting barriers. But, keeping her in the dark, preparing her for NOTHING, is just stupid. The mother should have told why she was so scared of her outside so her daughter could judging by herself with informations if she wanted to go outside or stay a shut-in. Choice, knowledge, freedom! I think a teenager can stomach for it. Cause now, we have a “I found you” guy and our MC doesn’t know she’s a potential target.
Not to mention, also give her social tools to not being used/tricked by other people later. I still think the “everybody hates me” was a terrible misunderstanding.

I always think that the best way to defend someone is to prepare them by given them every tools you have. Anyway, it's how I see it. Also character with flaws is good and realistic, I can give to the mother good point for trying.

No one talking how the prince has absolutly NO manners at all, smugly riding his horse while she has to walk, after HE forced her to come with him...

Agreed with everyone unhappy with the mother. The barrier theory is very likely correct, but it actully seems to make it even worse. In addition to hiding the truth about the incident, she was also hiding that there was a legitimate, not irrational reason to stay in that secluded place. The mother was essentially betting against MC getting better and going out on her own. What's even the point of the letter in that eventuality? MC would probably just avoid the town she believed to hate her and go elsewhere. Overall, the only way this charade would've turned out well if some sort of a magical prince stumbled upon her by pure coincidence - oh wait.

The letter came off as irresponsible to me coz why expect a shut-in to come out all by herself? Why did the mother keep her in the dark? And why didn't the villager woman decide to go to her place in the mountain instead of making a trick in the gate to clear things up when she could've done so? The mother may have reasons of her own to protect her daughter but the way this "drama" is handled is quite forced.

I liked the sad story.. felt more emotional and realistic. Would be a masterpiece if they stuck with it and story revolve around it, more emotional scenes.

Too bad now its gonna go down the happy cheesy shoujo romance cliche route.

I feel like a lot of people in these comments are really hard on a mother that tried really hard and obviously loved her daughter to pieces. Even if the decisions she made weren't necessarily the right ones, indeed even if they were blatantly counterproductive—she's still a great mom. I'd be happy to have had a mom like that, foolishness and all.

I mean, my own mother is wonderful. I wouldn't trade or anything. But still.

Did Keil just make Sena walk till the town instead of giving her a ride on his horse? What a douchebag.

Also mom ghost letters always remind me of violet evergarden and I cry like a bitch everytime.

I really do wonder why her mom being good at magicraft was weird. But I do agree with everyone else that it's strange the mom didn't tell anyone that something was up. It really seems like she had a legit reason for hiding them in the forest, but unsure as to why she kept it so quiet. Still loving the story!

I know how that feels. The pessimism was all just me broiling all my own traumas inside, all along. But a pro hikikomori will rarely discover that as we just don't want to step out of our comfort zone, due to years of unresolved feelings & fear of the unknown.

Anyway now I want to know if she's still got a dad to meet with. Her mom never disclosed anything about her having a father.

Btw if she even does homework & training about her own powers (she's 18 it's impossible to just let herself rot this long even if she's a hikikomori.. unless she's depressed), she could've come up with Disintegrate, Pulverize, Begone Thot, Thousand Slash or whatever fun style of pure destruction. She's got so much potential tbh.

God I fucking hate Destined Lovers stories. Especially when the MC has actual chemistry with the doomed-to-fail character as opposed to what I'm guessing is going to be "Boo-hoo you're so sad and lonely it makes me want to protect your smile."

Wow, what a piece of shit her mom is. She let her daughter torture herself for 8 year? What the fuck?!
