@bigtiddyoneesan Well, they're both his childhood friends, so technically you are right, lol.

Boy, I can't wait til the aftermath of the Confession Festival just to see if the opinions of a certain character change. Oh, it's gonna be awfully juicy.

plot twist:
During the play he discovers his homosexuality, and does an Ayn Rand-length speech/rant about it.
No, I'm just kidding.
Hopefully.

@Dr_Coke Hmm. I dread answering your question even under a Spoiler warning.

I've read ahead in the LN, which the Manga uses as an almost word-for-word script.

I'll link the LN in this spoiler.

The Light Novel link (click text to the left).

I know what happens after this chapter. It is an interesting twist, one I half predicted. But makes for interesting reading. I'll let the reader judge the quality of the LN itself.

So, I'm giving you a second chance to skip the real spoiler below:

The REAL
Essentially, the MC (Haru) will perform on stage as planned. He will out-perform his rival (Abe Senpai). What happens next:
The dark-haired beauty (Kachi Shirokusa) will be bypassed in terms of confessions in favour of the neighbor gal (Shida Kuroha).
The Shida Kuroha will refuse, but only out of a momentary childish maliciousness, a "Gotcha!" moment. A moment of: "You did this to me openly, so I'm gonna do this back to you." nonsense event which she will IMMEDIATELY regret.
In the process we also find out Abe Senpai was in on this all along. He played a part (being an actor) of faking a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship with Kachi Shirokusa.

Next chapter:
Meanwhile, back in the classroom the next day, Haru, Shida Kuroha, and Kachi Shirokusa are all groaning as they have flopped on their classroom desks.
Haru for being rejected;
Shida Kuroha for rejecting the one she loves dearly;
Kachi Shirokusa for being skipped over.

And in walks, YES!! Another Childhood Friend!
This childhood friend worked with Haru as an actress in his early days. She enters the class and claims Haru as her own!
As Kuroha and Shirokusa object at this new gal wrapping her arms around Haru, she lays waste of the two rivals by rubbing their noses in the fact that Haru bypassed Shirkusa and the Kuroha's open rejection of Haru. *sigh*

At this point I broke off reading because the book was, in my worthless opinion, utterly tedious to read.
Essentially, this seems to be a clever outworking of getting Haru back into acting, through the support of Tetsuhiko, his supporting male friend.
And walking all over our MC's feelings seems par for the course on just about everyone's part.
to consider.
I think the manga has dealt with the LN is a gorgeous way. I strongly, strongly advise bypassing my spoilers and just waiting it out. The art, the pacing, everything in the Manga is 10x better in terms of presentation.

@Fujiwara_no_Sai Wow what an absolute mess.
Poor pacing and multiple plot twists that serve no good reason other than to bait readers before resetting any romantic progression there was.
Might as well cut this chunk out and dump a whole chapter on exposition in its place.

@Plopthedog Perhaps LN readers are familiar with this author's writing style, but I certainly am not.

The writing is all OVER the place. The LN switches from First Person Perspective to Third Person willy nilly! Conversations between two players are difficult to follow due to a lack of identification as to who is saying what. This drives the reader to scroll up, find a spot where one is certain character A is speaking, then go "A, now B, now A, ..." Not really my cup of tea?

Anyway, no fault on the translators' part. I think they're super patient converting the LN into reasonably fluent English dialect. And since they're also in charge of typesetting, etc. the manga, they're right on the money word-for-word for their translation.

The Manga is superior. If you wish to slog through the LN, start around Volume 1 / Chapter 4 / Part 1. There's a little overlap, but it gets you into the mood of the LN while you have the manga in another tab.

Thank you, @kikimanox for the updates.

@Fujiwara_no_Sai thanks for the spoilers, I knew everyone being a childhood friend was really stupid, but what's going to happen is the stupidiest thing.
like really, she's gonna rekect him while all the school is watching? while she clearly has feelings and possesiveness on the guy

@fewer Isn't that a good thing? That means she has confidence in her own body. Are you shaming her life choice?

...it's hard to type that with a straight face...

Also people saying they're dumb, what do you expect from teenagers in love?

Eh, it was Kuro's plan all along to do that to him at the Confession Festival, she just didn't know how much she'd end up regretting it.

What I find interesting is that the characters don't just face internal pressure, but the fact that the high school environment lends to the chaotic nature. Not to mention, the superficiality of the mob and their constant judgments adds a sense that they're only judging their characters based on what relationship they're in and not because of any of their actual deeds
