What the fuck was all that about?

Having watched the anime, I've got to say it handled all these scenes far better than this manga's rushed job did... and on top of that, the translation here seemed ridiculously awkward throughout...

... to the point where I'm not entirely sure which scenes depicted in the anime this chapter corresponds to.
What a fucking mess... I expected better from this series.

Anime definitely executed better. You should watch it. It won't disappoint.

This entire chapter feels rushed, and it doesn't help that explanations are in an old-timey font that's awkward to read. I prefer that they keep comic sans only instead of switching around.

I've never understood this persistent fascination in manga and anime with Nazism and German fascism. 🤢

1. The Nazis disliked the Gothic Typesetting. In fact getting rid of it in official documents for a clear and modern style was one of the first things they did.

2. Visual similarities are just that, visual similarities.

Politically and ideologically, the Empire in Youjo Senki has nothing to do with fascism or Nazis (apart from being Militaristic). As is stated later, the Empire is based on judging people on Merit alone, regardless of race or Gender. Otherwise a woman of slavic descent wouldn't have been able to become 2nd in Command of their most prestigious Unit.

In fact Tanya is quite vocal of her dislike of fascism due to seeing it as wastefull, inefficient and too restrictive of individual freedom.

@IronVader501 you seem quite taken with my post! Thank you.

Literally nothing you've written has to do with my original comment about the "persistent fascination in manga and anime with Nazism and German fascism". That is sadly true and widely recognized.

And that tendency is blatantly obvious on the first pages of the first chapter of this manga: "Empire uber alles". Contrary to your second point, that is obviously text, not visual. And it blatantly references the Nazi party.

Finally, you are wrong about your first point. The Nazi party didn't change fave fonts until 1941 - it was not "one of the first things they did" after Hitler became Chancellor in 1933. It was used on the cover of the first edition of Mein Kampf, for goodness' sake. Even after 1941, it remained widely used - and the Fraktur typeface is widely associated today with the Nazi regime and is widely used by neo-fascist fringe groups.

'Nuff said.

"associated with" doesn't mean its correct.

People also "associate" the Nzis with efficiency when their Government was, often on purpose, terribly inefficient and prone to infighting.

People also "associate" the Soviet Union with brainless human-wave tactics and that equally incorrect.

Nothing in this "Blatantly references" the Nazi-Party. Thats simply wrong.

All of the political talk & situation, at best, is supposed to reference the situation in the German Empire, not the Third Reich. (Guess were that phrase was first use) They just overlap to a degree.

The point stands that there are no Nazis in this, except brought up as an example once or twice of how not to run a country and behave as human beings.

@IronVader501 Pfffft! LOL What exactly are you going on about? "Efficiency"? "Human WAVE"? Wat?! "Germany Empire"? You do know Reich means Empire in German? LOLOLOL

To recap -
- This manga references Nazi Germany with its "uber alles" crack. Fact.
- There is a weird fascination in too many Japanese manga with Nazism. Fact.
- Nothing you've written contradicts these points. LOL
- You've made additional, erroneous assertions (e.g., Fraktur, "visual") with a few odd tangents.

Read my original post again, son. My opinion still stands. I don't know why it triggered you, but I'll repost it for you -

I don't see how this references nazism... this is just a war based magic manga that makes sure to focus on the actual war.

@wigjump Its pretty clearly meant to be the second Reich, not the third. Also "uber alles" is not a Nazi slogan, its in the modern German National Anthem

Nope. The song is strongly associated with the Nazi regime, notwithstanding its continued use by the BRD. Wikipedia entry on Deutschlandlied:

During the Nazi era only the first stanza was used, followed by the SA song "Horst-Wessel-Lied".[10] It was played at occasions of great national significance such as the opening of the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin when Hitler and his entourage, along with Olympic officials, walked into the stadium amid a chorus of three thousand Germans singing "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles". In this way, the first verse became closely identified with the Nazi regime.

As for :which: Reich is referenced? Are you joking? Any references to a German Reich clearly associate with the Third Reich.

All this ahistorical apologism is absurd. Bye!
