i think it was mentioned that mielle did think aria was trying to take her place. she looked down on her "commoner behavior," and i have a feeling she's got somewhat of an inferiority complex as well. we know that she thinks of aria as a shameless slut, even when aria hasn't done anything, so this adds onto the previous argument. she's afraid of aria proving herself as someone 'noble,' and eventually losing the advantage she has on her.
yes, i think i would've enjoyed watching aria and mielle "battle it out" in a show of wits. however, that would be a wild story full of ups and downs, and wouldn't nearly be as satisfying as seeing aria just completely curb-stomp mielle.
not gonna lie, when i first realized "oh she has magical powers" i was like "what the fuck this is completely random." it does seem to be just for convenience and to speed up the plot, but the money-earning period (casino, sugar, etc.) would've been dragged out at least 5 chapters longer. i think it's a pretty good addition overall, it's unique, it's convenient, it saves us from reading 5 chapters worth of "aria is going to learn how to rob the nobles so she can start up her business."
and yes lmao like huh? why casino? i mean, it's probably the first way to make money off of a time-controlling device the author thought of. but it also ties in with her meeting with asher at the casino, him realizing she's got cool powers, and her realizing he's the crown prince. she ran into him bc he was chasing the evil casino owner. the franchise asher was chasing, catching, and passing off to the aristocratic faction had to be one with high risk, otherwise aria's scheme wouldn't work, so a casino was perfect. in actuality, author is a whole genius ahaha
aria not recognizing him as the crown prince was probably due to her deep trust in the timeline of her past life. in that timeline, she didn't even get to breathe in the same room as him, and she would never believe in her awesome luck to run into him outside in the town while he was undercover. and in her past life, all she heard was that crown prince and isis were a perfect couple, yada yada, so she would naturally think the crown prince loved isis, and that the rando running around courting her wouldn't be the crown prince that's supposed to be in love with isis.
