I'm not quite sure I understand the reasoning, but I'm willing to bet it has something to do with otaku nerds getting upset that their favorite vtuber character was going to date someone. Something akin to that weird virginal purity obsession you find in Idol Groups.

Yuuuuup... some Hololive vtuber got flack a while back because a male voice was overheard from her mic midstream or something. The backlash from that alone forced her to take a week off to wait for people to cool off, and she made an apology video.

Even anime voice actresses in Japan are rarely allowed to date, since they’re treated as some sort of sub branch of idols, or a representative of all the voices they’ve ever done. There’s a loophole, but for the most part, they either sneak and get caught, or regretfully stay single well past their 30s.

@BestBoy oh man you could absolutely be right. A similar thing happened to a vtuber who played smash with a pro gamer. Her audience got really pissed that she wasn't playing with them and she ended up apologizing. Outrage over a virtual waifu "dating" would not be a stretch.

I think I heard of that one. She got a random superchat for 10,000 yen, challenging her, and after flooring her, he supposedly challenged her fans.

At the time of the challenge, she asked the chat and her manager and got permission, but it seems like the voice of dissent grew louder than the ones accepting. Something about favoritism, or “special treatment”.

Rabid purityfag otaku are beyond reason. I was told he even waited for her stream to “end” first, fighting her and everyone else at the end like some sort of penalty game or secret final boss. Everything I’m saying is just secondhand, read off a YouTube comment tho.

This is like having a kid because you saw someone else had one, and then only a few years in decide "nah, it's too different; not how I thought it would turn out" and leaving it barely grown. Gimmick for gimmicks sakes, and why the Japanese idol industry (Japanese VTubers are by and large just faceless online idols, just (usually) without the managerial and business middleman) isn't a great thing to get involved with or make use of. Maybe they'll use their art for something better, but if they gave up this quick it's hard to have believe or have support.

@BestBoy From the little I know about Saki she addresses her audience as "Otaku-kun", so I just assume the "Otaku" in question is just the reader's self-insert. Also I think there was one porn doujin of her with basically the same setup of her and Otaku-kun where she even mentioned it and recommended it to her audience. So with those in mind, "purity" being the issue doesn't quite make sense to me. Although maybe the doujin is fine since it's a doujin, but this isn't because the author is the original character designer and some people might treat it as word of god?
