finally, the moment we've all been waiting for! my little heart can't take it ;v;
this got way longer than i expected, so essay incoming:
a little more background on the title drop: the full idiom is 成也萧何 败也萧何 cheng ye xiao he, bai ye xiao he, and it means 'success and failure both depend on the same person.' it's referring to the han dynasty politician 萧何 xiao he, who brought the famous general 韩信 han xin to fame but also lured him into the trap that lead to his death.
but our xiao he's name is written with the character 河, meaning 'river.' since there's so many homophones in chinese, it's pretty common for people to introduce themselves with a phrase or an idiom explaining how their name is actually written. here, xiao he describes his name with 河清海晏 he qing hai yan, which i translated literally as 'clear river, calm ocean.' this idiom is usually used to mean 'peace upon the world.'
another fun homophone - 小雅 xiao ya shows up in this chapter, but she has no relationship to xiao he at all. the xiao in her name means 'little,' and it's a pretty common prefix for cutesy nicknames.
i also forgot to tl the boxes at the end, but uh, they're just previews for ch33.5 and a giveaway which none of us can enter, lol.
