@criver I dont read that type of genre but wouldn’t there be a yaoi label if they had gay characters in this manga? Or is yaoi a whole nother archetype?

@ButteryBiscuit: Having a gay character is not enough for a manga to be considered yaoi. In general the work should focus on the romantic/sexual relationship between male characters to be labeled as such.

@criver I'm not saying the should or need to have a lgbt character, but not only would it be nice, but also there is no need to make us think Todo was a boy, it doesn't make the character more interesting or adds to the plot in any way that I can see right now.
Todo just seems like another character in love with a another character, one I could fine anywhere.
Also, I know there is a different between yaoi and shounen-ai. I don't like yaoi, I like shounen-ai/shoujo-ai

@SomeoneWasHere: I am unsure as to how having a gay character would be "nice". If you have something specific in mind please do elaborate.
And having Todo be a girl pretending to be a boy actually does add to the plot. It further emphasizes the character traits of the prince - namely the fact that he doesn't care about "his chair" at all. As if the fact that he uses a living being as a chair was not enough to show how self-centered he is, we are additionally shown that he doesn't actually even consider "his chair" as anything more than a chair - it's simply nameless (and genderless) servant number 57338. He fails to even realize the gender of the person he's sitting on.
And Todo is not just another character in love with somebody. Todo is an overweight girl pretending to be a boy just so that she can work, which is in love with a narcissistic spoiled prince thirsty for power, that couldn't care less about her. If this is not tragic I don't know what is.

How is nobody talking about page 17 where Bonchien suddenly lacks his characteristic sideburns?

Also, @SomeoneWasHere the manga as a medium is extremely wrong place to complain about having a lack of LGBT exploration. There's a lot of great titles that paint this topic, and not absolutely all works need something like that. Go (re-)read Yuureitou or something.

To be honest, I'm pretty sure a large number of people in Japan are stuck in the headspace where homosexuality is something for deviants. That's probably part of why you're not seeing that many gay characters represented fairly in series that aren't specifically about them. That said, I can't honestly say we're doing it all that much better over here in the U.S. yet either. Certainly, we're getting better about it but I feel like it's still a lot of "trying to be inclusive because we think we need to" rather than it just happening on its own, at this point. That's a step in the right direction and all I don't think the difference between the two should be ignored.

The prince has powers to see "Fei"... that's unusual....
And that man is jumping to conclusions too quickly....... he needs to die if he tries to woo our protagonist...
And he did look like a girl for some time...

How did Princess Barrel tag along with them? She was inside a barrel, ffs.
And Fushi, you traitor, I thought you had become a fellow doll-lover. I am dissappoint.

She don't get out the barrel! xD
Well, Bon should tell him about his friends following him, at least...

There shouldn't be a need for reason or justification for a queer (lgbt+) character to be included, because they exist, just like that, among us. I find people's excuses for not including one quite laughable, especially when this manga has the perfect setting for such inclusion. I mean, come on, Fushi is an immortal, shape shifting, sentient being who has no gender or sexuality. That doesn't mean they can't have either of those things, it means they can have and be anything. A blank canvas.
As for Todo, I do think it was quite odd to make her a woman, after all that. I don't have any "desire" or "motive" to make them a gay character, but having one would be a nice nod to recognize and acknowledge their existence, even in a fictional/fantasy setting. Also, Bon is quite a queer character himself, eccentric yet tolerant of all. He has no qualms with homosexuality or loving an inanimate doll, and he is a lovable, respectable person. Having that acknowledgement alone is important.

I was came from the latest ch.85 now i get the mystery behind it (not gonna spoil it though)
Btw for who those that said LGBT thing here. This story supposely to be asking for identity. Its like asking the meaning of life. How did he understand his oRieNtAtiOn of GeNdEr. Short word if you would like to put your views and not being egoistic thinking. You might be understand why the story became like this

I kinda want a barrel of princess long-legs.

Anyhow though... something about all of this doesn't add up. Like is Fushi literally carrying around the "souls" of the people he has copied with them? Or is that just something Bon is imagining? I can't say as I really get it... but it doesn't really conform with reality in any case, so who knows what even makes sense in this world?
