In this manga it wouldn't make sense, since her nationality is right there on the name. In other manga, I've seen English scanlations use asterisks and/or footnotes to indicate text that was already in English in the raws

This manga has a Russian translation.
The Russian text bubbles are left as they are - with Russian text and Japanese furigana.
The differences in font makes the difference clear.

Dude completely charmed/seduced her. How he could manage to do this without deliberately intending to is baffling enough that it could probably be considered a plot hole. The guy danced with her extremely well (nigh perfectly, even) after stating "She's taken" and having continuously supported her throughout the entire event.

You should tell the author then,not the translator. because ‘Yuri Sister i dont hate that (insert number)’ are literally what the author use as the titles of the last 8 chapters of the manga. Go check the official raw & use a translator so you can see it by yourself

Portuguese too, or at least brazilian one. You can get the relationship between people easily just from what nicknames they use for the other person, or popular people are treated with a mix of respect of a nickname (think Mr. Richie for someone named Richard).

It is so hard to get any closeness from english to me since everyone just uses either the first or last name, sometimes someones uses a nickname like Dick or Joe but that's kinda rare.
For example, in Harry Potter "Mione" was a common translation of her name here to show how the people saying it were close friends to her, but it seems that in the original it only happened once and she was annoyed by it?

Which is why I like manga translations that keep their honorifics. Hard to get them at first, but after some understanding I can fool myself into it being their version of some of our nicknames (chan would be when we use diminutives, for example).

There is a number of nicknames with "Sasha" pattern. Pasha for Pavel, Ksyusha for Ksenia...

Besides "Alya", there are many other nicknames with the same pattern. Anya for Anna, Tanya for Tatiana, Galya for Galina...

Here in Brazil (or in my region at least, the country is BIG) the most common is a mix cutting pieces of the name (Gabriel becoming Biel, for example. or putting them on the diminutive (Luiz becoming Luizinho, or Little Luiz) or augmentative (Luizão, or Big Luiz). Sometimes they also just... repeat sounds of the name (Rogério becoming Dedé because of the "gé", Luiz becoming Lulu). And sometimes we use the family name too.

So if a nickname ends with --inho, --inha or even just ---in, it is a diminutive, and if it ends with --ão it is augmentative. Others are more specific to how it sounds better to say.

A common nickname pattern I did not mention, is cutting a piece of the name, and adding -ka to it. Thus, an Alexander or Sasha can become Sashka. This one is rather rough, and is likely to be used by friends (or enemies), not by family members.
