It seems the jury is still out concerning why and how Kanade wishes to present themselves intimately and socially. And it seems that it is going to be a hung jury. One of many explanations offered that seems to fit the evidence outlined in the manga chapters, so far, is that Kanade seems to have some of the earmarks of a male to female transgender teenager. Consider the following---
>>>Kanade commits to wearing a sailor suit ( sailor fuku ), including wearing the pleated mini-skirt that would show their slender, bare thighs and legs ( typical male crossdressers many times will only wear an ankle-length skirt or a frumpy, long housedress, to cover their hairy, ugly legs ).
>>>Kanade commits to being out in public, where hundreds of people will see them, and many will judge Kanade, for better or worse ( typical male crossdressers many times will dress only in their bedrooms, or in a hotel room, or only be at a gay bar or nightclub, where only a few people will ever see them ).
>>>Kanade asks, then commits to holding hands with Nekome, out in public, where all can see that they are seemingly a couple and implied intimate lovers. A male to female transgender teenager who has a female gender identity probably would not mind holding hands with a guy, cis-het or gay ( typical male crossdressers are cis-het, married, and would seemingly never hold hands with another male, cis-het or gay ).
Remember, the above is just one out of dozens of thoughts that could be expressed to explain what Kanade is doing in the manga story. The thought that Kanade has begun experiencing a 'summoning and awakening' to that of a male-to-female transgender teenage girl is only a speculation, nothing more. And the story is currently only 6 chapters long, at least in English. The only one who knows for sure what is in Kanade's mind, heart, and soul is the mangaka, and one will just have to wait to see how the story ultimately plays out. But that is the whole fun and games of this kind of manga !
