Good lord, people are traumatized. This is a funny fuzzy romcom that we're not even 30 chapters into. Author isn't going to drop a drama nuke by killing off the girl's one pillar of unconditional support in her home life.
....That'll come after they've made a lot more progress and she's developed into a happier, healthier individual. Because that's when it'll hurt even more.
