I want to just say, but I HIGHLY doubt that the correct English word is sake. I think they said that they don't have rice in this pseudo-European place. Sake is made from rice. In Japanese, the word sake can just mean any alcohol at all. In English, it specifically refers to Japanese-style rice wine.
