So far I am really interested in the sister's work since it seems she seems to be working for the government as a liaison and that would imply that the government knows of the non-humans living among them.

Thankfully, Goro seems to have a good head on his shoulders, so I doubtful we'll get that far. It's probably why I find him so refreshing as a protag that is both mature and responsible and intelligent and doesn't seem to fall into the usual tropes.

My only real complaint with Goro is that he won't put a ring on it right now and start with the grandchildren, but then I do realize from a story standpoint why the author doesn't want to go there yet... he's probably saving that for the last volume. [insert rant here about how finally getting hitched does not have to end a series, but it usually does].

Yea, that would be my gripe too that the author wants to save that for the last chapters, but like you said, marriage is not the end of a story, so I don't know why writers tend to do that. Goro kinda reminds me of the leads in Mobuko no Koi. The main couple always seem on the precipice of some relationship cliche, but always avert it by being honest and open with each other, despite their insecurity. And it is very refreshing.

Zanma Yuu says at the end of every volume that they hope the series is a fun way to kill some time. That's how I feel reading it, like I'm killing time with these characters as they live their lives the best they can (sarusa's daily uploads certainly help this feeling).
Goro is looking for something, something that he's sure of so he doesn't hurt Kogane or her family. He doesn't know he's a character in a slice of life romance manga. He's not Mogami, after all. He's just doing his best, day by day, and we're with him, day by day.
I don't know where Zanma Yuu wants to end this series, but it feels like that eventual ending is less important than facing every new chapter with these characters.
