Perhaps... but let's not forget he's both artist AND author. His ability to produce and convey such creative and cohesive worlds so effectively without hand-holding readers is among the reasons why Blame is so well-regarded, and why just this first chapter is so enticing in my opinion. I feel he really embodies "show, don't tell." I don't believe his inconsistent artstyle detracts from his work.
