towards the toilet I beleive is what I think it is and essentially most tp holders have a little bar, so I usually use that bar as extre leverage to break it off into pieces.

I've always been a toward the wall guy myself since I frequent public and shop restrooms where you don't want the roll unraveling into the toilet if there is a fan blowing, or the end blowing like a banner near pissers with no aiming faculties.

The US patent application for the original TP holder has it going over the top. So that's a good argument for doing it that way.

Having said that, I have lived a couple places where, due to vents, it had to go around the back - not a huge deal.
