Gotta say...what an asspull! But still pretty cool chapter. Giselle semi-redeeming herself imo.

I’d suggest you and everyone else to go read the comment the translator made in the comment section of the chapter where she attacks him. They make it clear that what she was trying to do was make him give up after showing that he actually isn’t strong. It’s much like how Bakugo in MHA says he’s going to kill someone but actually means he’s just planning on beating the shit out of them.

TDLR she’s essentially like Bakugo who says she’ll kill the Deku (ie the MC here) but never does as he just beats him up instead to show him that Deku is still weak
In BNHA Bakugo tortured Deku both physically and (especially) mentally for a dekade. He also told Deku to kill himself and Deku almost actually did that. But then Deku, being a saint he is, forgives Bakugo. At least the author roasted Bakugo for quite a long while then.

They're similar alright. They both had "justification" for doing all that. But they went far beyond the line to still be justified.

that skill is kinda OP if it doesn't have a range limitation then he can use it with a bow and become a good assassin sniper

Thanks for the chapter.
Was tad worried at the rapid progression but i'm not TOO worried since it seems to be a decent cycle of: training hard to obtain skills, then using those skills a lot to level them, and then finally combining the learned and leveled skills (which imo was a very cool/hype moment). Any "cliche" aside, its the nature of these stories and I love skill evolution/combining.
They can't get me to care about Giselle or whatever, not really sure the point of making her actively trying to have him die then getting upset about seeing it. Def the weakest part of the story right now, but no choice but to roll with it for now.

What? Hell no. She's ain't like Bakugo at all. Bakugo is a shit character with almost enough development and with some actual sense behind his shittiness. Even at the early chapters it was obvious that Bakugo was a more (just slightly) complex chlaracter than he first seems. I don't even like his ass and I get that.

This bitch right here? She's just plain shit. Just an asshole character with tacked on obligatory sad background to fish for sympathy. The least she could do was foreshadow her sad sob story during her preparation to jump him. Show her being concerned about the presence of monsters or something. Anything as a foreshadow. Just look at what she tried to do man... She planned on beating up her colleague over asshole reasons IN A FOREST FULL OF MONSTERS. A place where shit can go south real quick (and it did go south). Shit is practically a death sentence if she's doing this to a non protagonist character.

And the most annoying thing is, she doesn't have to be this unlikeable. She just have to TRY challenging the MC through the proper channels. Ask him to a duel. Or mock combat practice. If the author still want to have her asshole moment in the forest, then make it so that her attempts to challenge MC to a duel failed repeatedly because either the MC refuses or his teachers intervened. THEN it would make sense why the bitch would bring the fight to the wild. And don't forget the foreshadowing I mentioned earlier.

Nothing at all you say?
A brash childhood character that acts like shite to the MC? Check
Treats the MC even worse than before cause they got showed up? Check
Saying they’ll kill the MC when they actually mean that they’re going to badly beat them up? Check
Character was far stronger than the MC and is upset that they’re no longer the same weakling that they knew before? Check

I’m not saying she’s exactly like Bakugo. Bakugo is a far better character, both in depth and likability. I was choosing two characters that I felt matched the way Cross and Gisele are.

Btw said forest of monsters was essentially the equivalent of a tutorial forest that would have low level monsters in it. They had zero reason to think anything above what they could handle in droves would appear in front of them. So that point of yours about the forest doesn’t make sense

MC : "Yay, finally my attack hit the monster, and despite it not killing it I will look away for a second to brag it out!!"

Readers and the Girl : "WTF MotherF*cker!! Front!! Eyes to the Enemy idiot!!!"

I'm sure you know I was being hyperbolic there. Of course there are superficial similarity. That's obvious.

My take on the forest was spoken through the perspective of someone that has common sense. If you want to beat someone up, there are better place to do it. A park. Behind an empty building. In an alley at night. Etc. Doing it in a place where there are monsters is just pushing it. Even if it's a tutorial forest. Who's to say that higher level monsters wouldn't migrate there or stumble in there? Do remember that the setting of the place is an Adventurer's School. With it being a school for adventurers, it's save to assume that they were taught more than just how to kill. Surely they were taught the history and mechanic of monsters migration, monsters biology, etc.

The fact that she and her cronies still decided to beat the MC in a forest full of monsters despite these basic set of information means that they didn't really care whether the MC die or not.

It makes sense if you look at it from the perspective of someone that live in that world. An equivalent of this for our world would be if you beat someone up in a place with high foot traffic versus beating someone up in a place with no foot traffic. The former allows help to come relatively easily should medical help is needed. The latter would be a death sentence if medical help is needed. If I don't wanna kill the guy, I'd beat him up in an alley close to a place with high foot traffic. After I'm done I'll just drag him and throw him out of the alley so people can see him. I'd also wear a hoodie or a mask to hide my identity if I don't want to be known. If I don't care about his safety, then idnjust beat him up and leave him in an empty alley somewhere.

This should make my point clearer. If not, then I am still fucking bad and explaining shit. I apologize. My core point is that her action doesn't align with her intention of just beating him up to tell him that he was weak. Her action and dialogue all point to her wanting to cripple or even kill the MC.

Just a final bit as I don’t want to turn this into a long arse argument.

There was zero reason to expect a monster that was over 10x the rank of monster that is normally there. What happened to them was the equivalent of one of the demon king’s heavenly generals appearing right when you leave the town you learned how to play the game in. It’s so far out of left field that zero people would expect it to happen and it only happened cause it was a straggler from a stampede. They had every reason to expect they would find nothing stronger than a slime or a few goblins and they were strong enough to deal with monsters like that. They expected to go there, give him a good beating and teach him that he is still a weakling, then heal him and then escort him out of the forest. Then they can blame any damage he might still have on him fighting monsters despite still being a weakling. Her saving him from that would then boost her rep as people would view her to be someone willing to still help others even after accidentally losing to them. It would have solved her problems at the same time. That was her plan is my guess.

Only issue with your analogy is that we don’t have potions and healing magic so it doesn’t matter if they did do it in a place with no foot traffic. They can just heal him after they beat him and the fact there’s no witnesses in the first is why they went there instead of beating him in a high traffic area. Plus the HTA would mean there’s a higher chance of getting caught.

Oh fuck off, "I saw someone important to me die so now I'm gonna bully (to the point of torture) anyone I consider weak and important to me so I don't have to go through that again". Fuck off.

Yeah. She was literally just trying to kill him, now she doesn't want to see him die.

Also why would you report the person you were just trying to kill as missing?

Finally Cross losing focus in the middle of the battle was just plain stupid after how focused and serious he had been.

But the art is beautiful.
She wasn't trying to kill him, I don't think. Just beat him up so he wouldn't try anything else. He took a beating from her in the arena, she knows his durability
