Honestly I wish the enemy was portrayed as more competent than they actually are rather than something to be mowed down like cannon fodder, it just devalues the enemy and makes the series more meh the more you notice it. Also the commander has WAY too much plot armor.

i mean the commander is a freaking beast, if MC and her(his) allies were the one being rushed down by a madman without their commander then theyd be mowed down like cannon fodder too

The only reason they seem like cannon fodder is because of who dear little Touri is attached to.
In all actuality, everyone here is cannon fodder. welcome to the hell that is trench warfare. A style of war that lead to the extinction of numerous bloodlines in the real world.
