About the "old eyes", I think he's saying the healing itself didn't change his eyes, even if the change happened the same time as the healing did.

(I.e. his old, "pre-damage" eyes were not magical elf eyes, but at the same time his brain was healed/restored to it's good state, his eyes got swapped out for better ones.)
