Technically this isn't a scene trying to explain a lack of romance, it's explaining a lack of sex. If anything, this chapter ends with Makoto is becoming more conscious of the two due to this, which is a small step forward in the romance department.

How long have they been together already? Those two have made their desires pretty clear from the beginning, but Makoto has had zero interest. If he hasn't been interested for so long, why would he now become interested? There is always the chance of Makoto being asexual in general, which would make it nothing personal, but that would lead to the same conclusion: he won't ever become interested in anybody sexually. He could still have a romance based on other values than physical attraction, though, but apparently neither Mio nor Tomoe has sparked such interest either.

It would seem more natural for Makoto to meet someone new and fall for her. I'm not sure how the readership would react to that, though.

How does the MC tackle an issue that's something as important as the reproduction of offspring for a species, when he himself is still very young and uncomfortable with sexual subjects? And I'd honestly say this chapter handles it better than most similar isekai will, but it still just comes off as so flat and a bit of a nothing waste of time.

If he had had next to zilch interaction with girls/women, it would perhaps make some sense. But he's been surrounded by them for a long time now, some of them suggesting marriage to him at the academy, even if it's for political purposes. He has no particular difficulties dealing with the extremely beautiful hyuman girls. So, all in all, he should be quite accustomed to females, even if he has no sexual experience due to being so asexual.

I couldn't say if this handles it better than most isekai. Isn't that because this is a long series already, plus this has a whole lot of social interactions, almost to a slice of life degree, instead of continuous exploration and fighting, for example?

Instead it just gets played off for jokes or to like show how pure and innocent the main character is compared to all the "degenerates" around him or idk anger the people reading that are projecting and just want a power fantasy in every way possible. Neither route is good or bad, but

That was just incredible stupid part of the scene. Dude has been living in that world for a good long while already, has got those marriage suggestions, and generally has interacted with a thousand people, but suddenly he doesn't realise their marriage and romantic standards aren't exactly the same as in Japan. If this chapter otherwise handled some things better than average isekai, that detail was much worse than in most isekai. It's like a transfer student six months in Japan only noticing the place has left-hand traffic after someone points it out to him/her.

my guess is he had crush for hibiki, that's why he rejected the 2 from archery club. since hibiki is in this world , author maybe want to direct them there eventually

You sure? because if that is true the water came too fast to the whole since it was already full of water just after the explosion and there was no source of water (over the land, could be underground) to do that and an underground vein wouldn't fill such massive hole so fast.

Makoto main element in magic is water and Lance said the nuke had water element in it and that is the only reason he was able to survive it.
The water in the lake is from the magic explosion.
