“Child pornography is defined in article 2 OPSC as ‘any representation of a child engaged in real or simulated explicit sexual activities, regardless of the means used, or any representation of the sexual parts of a child for primarily sexual purposes’. The qualification ‘by whatever means’ reflects the broad range of material available in a variety of media, online and offline. It includes, inter alia: visual material such as photographs, movies, drawings and cartoons; audio representations; any digital media representation; live performances; written materials in print or online; and physical objects such as sculptures, toys, or ornaments.1 “The Committee urges States parties to prohibit, by law, child sexual abuse material in any form. The Committee notes that such material is increasingly circulating online, and strongly recommends States parties to ensure that relevant provisions of their Criminal Codes cover all forms of material, including when the acts listed in article 3.1(c) are committed online and including when such material represents realistic representations of non-existing children.”

“The Committee is of the view that “simulated explicit sexual activities” should be interpreted as including any material, online or offline, that depicts or otherwise represents any person appearing to be a child engaged in real or simulated sexually explicit conduct and realistic and/or virtual depictions of a child engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Such depictions contribute to normalising the sexualisation of children and fuels the demand of child sexual abuse material. “Moreover, for the reasons explained in paragraph 63, any representation of the sexual parts of a child, including realistic images of the sexual organs of a child, for primarily sexual purposes falls under the definition of this offence. Where it may be complicated to establish with certainty if a representation is intended or used for “primarily sexual purposes”, the Committee deems it necessary to consider the context in which it is being used.”

From the bottom of my heart, for people who have normal tastes like me, I don't mind at all.

Simply put, let's imagine that there are still fools out there. The case also happened in my country : Someone was arrested. When the police collect the evidence, the wallpaper of his phone was anime. Reported, spread on social media, then netizen looks down on "Like anime = otaku = trash".

As a user of social media, there are many people full of dramas. They are labile, childish. They are proud of liking things like that. This makes people no longer care "why you are as an adult still like cartoons" and move on to see how they act stupidly without thinking.

I don't understand what is wrong with this movement. I can't blame the decision they made. Why do you ask "there should be more important"? This is one of the important things, maybe you can consider...there is a data, there are many victims. In my opinion it cannot be underestimated. This is a protection problem that cannot be compared to how you satisfy your lust.

Thats fine, main concern I have are the "actors" that look like 12 year old but are in mid 30, Im curious on how the body positivity movement would react. It's an interesting correlation/casual relationship that humans will escalate from drawings to reality by default.

I can't say I buy into it though, and so even if it's less about protecting non-existent people, it doesn't seem like a viable argument.

I would buy into the implication that once you ban one thing, you start to open the door for banning all of those other things, however slow that process may be.

I took a look at how the law is written, and like most such things it's a fucking mess. The way it's written, it would eliminate most series that have children in them regardless of use or context. Or at least it would give a legal excuse to begin investigation.

You want to get rid of this mess of "I want to get my rocks off to underage bodies and it's a-ok because they're hundred year old monsters", go right ahead; I'd even help you write it up if you paid me a fair wage for my hours. But this law needs to be reworked a fair bit before I'd let it pass.

Course, I don't live in the UK/EU, so anything I'd be able to do one way or another is very limited beyond what I've already mentioned.

This is awful on so many level of logic.

1. Any culture with public bathhouses frequently go to bathhouses and bathe in the nude with children and people of all ages. Is that sexual too? Time to ban all pictures of Saunas, pre-modern Western bathing history, Greek and Roman statues and a large proportion of classical paintings JUST TO BE SURE!!! Oh, you thought only the Japanese would be affected? You dumb U.N.!!!

2. Does the U.N. not understand China had a TRADITION of drawing naked children playing around on wall scrolls? Same with Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, Korea, etc. You can easily find wall scrolls of naked children everywhere. Is the U.N. gonna consider that child pornography? Oh, that doesn't sway you? How about Europe having this amazing trend of drawing naked children on their paintings called Cherubs and Europe fascination in the middle ages or renaissance for drawing naked children? You gonna ban that too?

3. Naked children are porn now? Okay, explain that to Africa, India, South America and whatever pick of Asian or Island nations where nudity is a necessity or a cultural thing. You know, places with a lot of water or don't give two shits about being clothed?

4. The damn law has no hard guidelines. Even if you support this proposal, you shouldn't. They can keep pushing their goalposts forever to unrealistic levels and apply it to anything that looks underage or teenagers so it would push artists to age all their characters up. Just say no, the effects on art and culture would be retarded, imagine 20 year olds trying to pretend to be 12-14 year olds.
