Honestly there was never really much of a period where the author establishes a “father-daughter” relationship in the first place. She only ever actually needed Dale’s help to learn the language, and then the bar couple act more like parents anyways.

Like ,I wouldnt mind if Dale treated her like a brother-sister relationship. But the author went full Usagi Drop on us , and that....that aint just right

The problem with being against the 'usagi drop' method is that you're taking away the girl's agency as a person to decide for herself what she wants. It's saying "we know better than you what relationship you should be allowed to pursue" and it's a pretty anti-woman and puritanical stance (while masquerading as once that's pro-woman, which is really insidious).

While *in general* we can say that there's a potential for harm in Usagi Drop situations, we can't let that general standard overrule when it comes to situations *in particular*, which must always be judged on their own individual merits, while fully respecting the agency and humanity of everyone involved.

The real problen with the Usagi Drop path isn't the concept itself but rather the execution.

The reason people disliked Usagi Drop's ending so much was because 99% of the story was about the main characters having a father-daughter relationship, only for them to suddenly become romantically involved in the final chapter. Contrast this with Kodomo no Jikan, where even though the MC acted like a father/brother to Rin from time to time, there was no doubt they would end up together.

So basically it depends on how the authors develops and shows their relationship before they become a couple. I personally think it's too soon to judge this story one way or another.

Especially with a couple of different races like this.

Can you imagine.

They start out as a sort of hierarchical relations at first (parent-child, master-servant, etc)

Grow closer, form deep bonds, whether romantic (or even sexual) or not.

In time, the one with longer life span will likely grow enough for them to look 'natural' side by side.

Then as time goes on, the one with shorter life span will slowly grow old, and DIE.
The one that remain will grieve, but then what next?
Will they keep living on, support by the memories of those days, or will they fall into despair, losing the one that gave light to their days, warmth to their nights?
If they keep living on, will the two eventually reunite through a cycle of reincarnation, starting their relations again with the role reverse?

etc etc

Basically, anyone who want example of this, just look up
"Let's Meet at The Witches' Gathering" (Japanese: #魔女集会で会いましょう ) images.

Note that your reactions may range from 'aww that's cute' '*screaming fangirl*' to 'no no no plz not like this' to 'whyyyyyyyyyyyyy god, whyyyyy'

@WhimsiCat

About the different races thing

after they get engaged , it is revealed that she is the 8th Demon Lord, and in order to not leave her alone due to different lifespans, he chooses to become a demon too to stay with her and even shares this information with family and friends so that they don't freak out because he stops aging

Also, this is way different than Usagi Drop, where the age gap was over 20 years. Here is only 10 years, and Dale is always busy doing adventurer jobs, so really during childhood of Latina the Bar/Guild owners are more like parents to her than Dale. Dale is just happy for Latina to be there to welcome him when he comes back from his dispatchs

Another character from another race that is even more long lived than the demon race also says that since long lived races have low birth rates, meeting someone close to your age is almost impossible. So when they have a romantic relationship, one of them is going to end up alone for a long time anyways.

what make usagi drop bad is the asspull ending... rin never see daikichi as father figure either... hence why she never call him father... but she realze that way too cringy and the author pull it way to abrupt... this has no such a problem... the title do kind of worse tho in here, the series it self isn't....

How conflicting it must be to be a guardian to a child and end up being the one she sees the least, have your role covered by other people, and come back home to find out that she's already been taught and done things you thought you would teach her, such as cleaning up after herself, taking her to a park to make friends with other kids, educate her about saving money, and other important life lessons. To not be there when she's hurt and crying, and arrive to find her in the hospital. The kid is growing up so fast, is already independent, and you of all people didn't see any of it happen, so your help isn't really needed anymore.
And now she's showing signs that she doesn't really see Dale as a father figure, but as something else. Poor guy.

Well, to be fair, she can't really see Dale as a Father when he's what, max 8/10 y older than her ?
He's more like a Big brother at this stade.

kronix as usual is right, and it's not even slightly for the reason lysander says.
it's because sexuality and marriage with a power or age dynamic far in the man's favor is based and morally good
and the more it offends egalitarians the better.
