This makes me think, and it's only a supposition,
That maybe Aston Machan was in the car with her trainer and that she actually died, while her Trainer survived, thusly retiring from Tracen despite being a promising Trainer, because they are shattered inside from that loss.
The same way no one remembers Aston, that would be the reason she disappeared from one day to the other: because she'd have died, and here again people don't remember it because it's traumatic, and the other girls have mentionned only the Trainer being in the accident but that wouldn't be the full event.
Also the broken sign with the inscription "Please treat Aston Machan well" makes me think it's maybe a sign that was on the accident scene that she'd have written (?) this is a not very stable supposition here.

That's Ashton Machan, a horse who IRL was active around the same time as Daiwa Scarlet and Vodka.

The real horse very unfortunately died at a VERY young age during what could've the peak of her career. Because of this and the great rivalry between DaiSca and Vodka, she was quickly forgotten by horse racing fans.

So CyGames, with help from the IRL horse's owner, decided to make her character be someone who wishes to not be forgotten, which is represented with her photo bombing every chance she gets.

She's also interestingly enough one of the few Uma Musumes who seem to be aware of the fourth wall, staring directly at us (the player/viewer), with hopes that we will not forget her like we did to the real horse.

i disagree with the take she was forgotten she wasnt talked about as much anymore because she well, died but i bet if you asked fans at the time theyd talk about her or if you asked even now.

i dont vibe with this one its just needlessly sad to say they magically forget her and then having her plushy and sign ruined just felt mean spirited like the author was just digging for a tear jerker, if they remebered her once in a while and were sad sure but like this just feels weirdly like its trying super hard to be sad and tug on the heart strings

Spoiler for her story in game.

Aston Machan's goal isn't to win any specific race but to be a mascot so she can be remembered. The IRL horse was meant to be the third in the Vodka-Scarlet rivalry but died before becoming popular, her death was overshadowed by their intense rivalry. In game, her Trainer tried a lot of publicity to boost her name, including the huge mascot suit. In the oneshot, they got ran over by car, still alive but unable to resume their duties. No one to help her realise her goal and to remember her, Machan was "called to the sea".

In game a lot of Uma have weird abilities, like Neo Universe actually being a Multi-dimensional Being.

Manhattan Cafe able to talk to the Ghost of her Brother. (And others)

And Aston Machan always knowing where the Real Camera is.

In game, after winning the URA, Aston comes to terms that people would forget her and there's nothing she can do.

And she decides shes going to walk into the sea.

It's only becuase of her Plushy the trainer owns, that you remember, saving her, and vowing to do everything to make her be remembered.

But in a Career win only, even you forget her.

When Aston leaves the Academy after the Career win/URA win everyone forgets her.

So in Manga, the same thing happens.

I suppose this Manga is a What If Trainer-san couldnt keep the memory alive.

Little easteregg in Game.

Machan is the only Uma without an Archive Entry.

Which would of course cuase players to forget she exists.

You can only get her entry upon recruiting her.
