I suspect Maxell has the power of incredibly lucky eyes, and needs a purpose in life. He says that "that old dude possesses what I seek" when watching Kong gamble, after all. Because Maxell can win all his gambles, he doesn't have a reason to live besides money, and experiences no excitement.

Also, it seems like Haiji has some history with Maxell. I guess we'll see next week what this is all about.
